I'd been craving that savory, nutty grilled eel sizzling golden over charcoal, so I headed to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, a dinner spot in Amsa-dong. Eel restaurants are often pricey, but this place offers great value — staff grill everything for you from start to finish, plus you get complimentary eel soup and one eel extract pack per person. A genuinely great find! Here's my honest review.
How far is it from Amsa Station?

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, a dinner spot in Amsa-dong, is just a 5-minute walk from Amsa Station on Line 8.

There's a spacious dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so you can park stress-free — great for family outings or gatherings in Amsa.

A spacious hall and self-serve bar for group gatherings
Walking through the door, I was greeted by a spacious, clean interior.

The tables were spaced generously apart and the space was quite roomy, making it a solid choice near Amsa Station for group meals or company dinners.

There's also a self-serve bar on one side with unlimited lettuce, perilla leaves, and white kimchi, which I really appreciated since you can just help yourself without worry.
What we ordered for two, and the prices

After sitting down, I checked out the menu. From the signature salt-grilled eel to extra eel, beef short rib, eel and loach soup, and kimchi jjigae, the menu was packed with mains and sides. My partner and I ordered the following as a pair:
- Salt-grilled eel, 1kg (550–600g after trimming): ₩59,000
- Perilla seed dumpling soup (glutinous rice): ₩10,000
- Six prawns: from the Naver receipt review event

Side dishes and one eel extract pack per person
After ordering, a neat and generous spread of side dishes arrived — pickled ginger and perilla leaves (essential with grilled eel), white kimchi, and seasoned chives, all cleanly arranged.

There was also a really wide variety of wrapping greens ready to go.
They also gave each of us our own pack of the healthy Jangsuchon eel extract, matched to our headcount — it felt like getting an energy boost even before the meal started.

By the way, the Jangsuchon eel extract is also sold in-store, which seems like a great Chuseok gift idea for parents.

On top of that, a hearty bowl of eel soup came free as a basic side. I took a spoonful and it had no fishy taste at all,

the thick, rich broth warming my stomach — a wonderful appetizer before the main meal.

Salt-grilled eel, grilled tableside from start to finish
Finally, today's star — the salt-grilled eel — arrived. The glossy skin, vivid flesh color, and generous thickness immediately showed this was top-quality river eel.
The biggest advantage of Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is that staff grill the eel entirely for you, from skin to flesh, sprinkling on salt with skilled precision so nothing burns.

Once it's cooked just right, they cut it into neat pieces and line them up, so you can focus entirely on the conversation — a real eel spot in Amsa-dong.

I picked up a thick, golden-brown piece of perfectly grilled eel, and the moment it hit my mouth, the crispy skin gave way to soft, juicy flesh bursting with flavor.
No fishy or muddy taste at all — just pure, savory richness. Dipping it in the sweet-salty house teriyaki sauce piled with sharp ginger shreds, or wrapping it with white kimchi to cut the richness, made it impossible to stop eating — a real family dinner destination in Amsa-dong.

Six king prawns from the review event
Midway through the eel, I took part in the Naver review event listed on the table. Most places just give you a can of soda, but here at this Amsa-dong restaurant, they gave a generous six king prawns as a thank-you.

They lined the prawns up on the charcoal grill and they turned an appetizing red as they cooked.
Peeling from head to tail and taking a bite, the meat was plump and firm — grilling them over charcoal ourselves was genuinely fun.
A finishing side: perilla seed dumpling soup
To finish the meal, the perilla seed dumpling soup we ordered arrived in a large bowl, fragrant with nutty perilla aroma. The broth was light and smooth rather than thick and heavy, making it a pleasant way to cleanse the palate after the meal. The glutinous rice dumplings were cooked through, wonderfully soft and chewy — a satisfying side that settled the stomach nicely after all that grilled eel, haha.
Final thoughts
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel in Amsa was a satisfying family dinner spot in Amsa where you can fully enjoy the rich flavor of top-grade salt-grilled river eel at a reasonable price. The eel we tried had an overwhelmingly good crispy-outside, juicy-inside texture with bursts of savory flavor, and having staff grill it for us made everything so much more convenient.
With the generous complimentary eel soup and extract, plus the six king prawns from the Naver review, the whole meal felt like a full course — a great experience from start to finish. The restaurant is clean and spacious, making it suitable not just for family meals but also company dinners and group gatherings. I'd definitely recommend a visit to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel in Amsa.
