Gongdeok Korean restaurant for lunch with coworkers: Horangi Gotgan
In short
Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch is a Korean restaurant near Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul, serving bibimbap and naengmyeon (cold noodles) to the office crowd nearby. Three coworkers visited on a weekday at noon, waited about 20 minutes, and all ordered yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef bibimbap) with self-serve side dishes and heotgae tea on the side for a filling yet clean meal. Aside from the lunchtime wait, it was a satisfying pick for a workday lunch.

Today I wanted to write about a filling lunch option — yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef bibimbap) at Horangi Gotgan. There are so many offices around Gongdeok that lunchtime always turns into a debate over where to eat. On a day I was craving Korean food, I headed to Horangi Gotgan.

From bibimbap to naengmyeon, Horangi Gotgan has a menu varied enough to work well for a group!

Inside Horangi Gotgan near Gongdeok Station and the lunch wait
Inside Horangi Gotgan

The interior is clean with a decent number of seats, but expect a wait between 12:00 and 13:30 during lunch hours. We arrived around noon and waited about 20 minutes before being seated. If you're planning to go during peak lunch hours, I'd recommend budgeting some extra time for waiting :)

When looking for a good lunch spot near Gongdeok, what mattered most to me was finding somewhere that wasn't too heavy but still filling enough for a proper meal. Horangi Gotgan focuses on clean, straightforward Korean dishes, which made it an easy pick for lunch, and the overall atmosphere was tidy and comfortable to eat in. What I ordered was the yukhoe bibimbap.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar
The side dishes are pickled onions and diced radish kimchi, along with warm broth. Pairing bites of diced radish kimchi or pickled onions in between bites of yukhoe bibimbap kept the palate clean, and the combination worked really well. Adding sips of the warm broth on top of that paired beautifully with the bibimbap, and I enjoyed it a lot :)

Horangi Gotgan also has a separate self-serve bar. It was nice being able to grab as much of the side dishes as I wanted, and I liked that I could refill without feeling awkward about it :) There's also a cute little sign at the self-serve bar that says 'We'll be sad if you leave food,' which I found kind of charming haha. My recommendation: take small portions at a time, enjoy them, and go back for more if you need to!

Yukhoe bibimbap — the dish all three of us chose
I visited with coworkers that day, and all three of us ordered the yukhoe bibimbap. It looked the most appetizing, to the point where we all picked the same thing without even discussing it, and after trying it, I understood why it's a popular menu item :) The bibimbap came piled with raw beef and a generous mix of vegetables, topped with an egg yolk in the center — it looked delicious just from the visual alone.

When you search for good lunch spots around Gongdeok, a lot of what comes up is heavier fare like gukbap (soup with rice) or jjigae (stew). I liked that the yukhoe bibimbap was filling while still feeling relatively light and clean.

I also liked that instead of plain water, they served heotgae tea. It has a nutty yet clean taste, and taking a sip or two before eating seemed to subtly whet the appetite. It went really well with a rich, savory dish like the yukhoe bibimbap :)
Popping the yolk and mixing it in
Once you add the seasoning sauce and pop the yolk, mixing everything together evenly makes it much richer and more savory. It wasn't overly spicy — instead you could taste both the savory flavor of the raw beef and the freshness of the vegetables together, so I never got tired of it all the way through. The added sesame seeds rounded out the nutty flavor nicely too.
Pop the yolk, then pour in the gochujang (red chili paste). The delicious yukhoe bibimbap coming together.

Yukhoe bibimbap needs fresh ingredients to taste good, and here the tender texture of the raw beef paired really well with the crisp texture of the vegetables.

The portion was also more generous than I expected, plenty for a lunch meal. Lunch prices aren't cheap these days, so considering the composition and portion size, it felt like good value. It made me think this would be a solid choice for office workers looking for a lunch spot near Gongdeok.

Who's it good to go with?
Beyond the yukhoe bibimbap, there are other bibimbap options and naengmyeon on the menu, so it shouldn't be hard to find something even for someone who isn't into raw beef. It's a great pick for lunch with friends or coworkers, and just as easy a choice if you want a filling solo meal. If you're after a clean, satisfying meal near Gongdeok, how about a bowl of yukhoe bibimbap at Horangi Gotgan?
