Mexican restaurant in Dongdaemun with a combo platter: Eaters Mexican

If you're looking for a properly good Mexican taco spot near HUFS or Hoegi Station, there’s nowhere quite like Eaters Mexican HUFS Branch (이터스 멕시칸 외대점)! They also have platters for anyone who doesn’t quite get full on tacos alone. With pasta, tacos, a burrito, and buffalo wings all in the mix, I especially recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a little of everything haha.

Today, I’ll tell you all about what comes on the combo platter and how it tasted. Vámonos!

Where is Eaters Mexican HUFS Branch?

Eaters Mexican HUFS Branch is on the third floor of the building to the left of McDonald's! Before you head up, you can check the banner to see which tacos and burritos they sell :)

It’s right by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Station, so I imagine lots of students from HUFS, Kyung Hee University, and the University of Seoul come here haha. Eaters Mexican HUFS Branch is on the third floor of THE 305 building!

When you get up to the third floor, the entrance counter is decorated with cacti and green plants. There’s also a huge mirror by the elevator doors, which makes it such a great photo spot for mirror selfies.

My girlfriend and I took photos together for the first time in ages and got ourselves into a date-day mood haha.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?

The first thing that caught my eye at the entrance counter was the vibrant, distinctive geometric tilework in a Mexican style!

There were photos of all kinds of tacos at the counter, and I was already getting excited, you know?

There are lots of tables for four, but there are long communal tables too, so it seems great for group get-togethers as well.

They have high chairs too, so bringing kids along should be no problem! They even have blankets for guests. My girlfriend gets cold super easily and is always freezing when we go to restaurants. But with blankets here, don’t worry!

I noticed there’s an outdoor terrace too! On a nice day, it would be so good to enjoy tacos outside with a beer~~

There’s also a slightly room-like area with an L-shaped sofa, so you can have a fairly private meal :) This would be a nice place to sit when you come with family haha.

We picked the seat looking out onto the outdoor terrace. Sitting outside felt like a bit much for us, but the floor-to-ceiling windows let you see it all from inside, so this felt like a prime seat too haha.

Combo platter menu and price

You can order from a tablet! (Unlike other restaurants, this isn’t a kiosk—it’s an actual, real tablet, which I thought was so interesting.)

We originally planned to eat only tacos, but then we came across a seriously good-value set menu. The combo platter! It comes with pasta, two kinds of tacos, a burrito, and buffalo wings all at once, and I could practically hear my girlfriend’s eyes popping at the thought of trying so many things hahaha.

What comes with the combo platter, and how did it taste?

I actually lived in Mexico, so my expectations for how good it would be were incredibly high. First of all, the size alone blew me away. The chipotle cream pasta arrives in a cast-iron pan, and the color alone passed the test! That delicious orange chipotle pasta color, right?

It also had three whole big shrimp on top, with a lovely plump bite. It might look rich in photos, but it wasn’t rich at all—it tasted clean and fresh.

The heat from the chipotle cuts through the creaminess, so even my girlfriend, who isn’t great with rich food, loved it and finished it all.

Next up were the buffalo wings and nachos! The buffalo wings were the perfect size to pick up with your hands, and their salty flavor really made me want a beer.

I think my girlfriend and I split about two or three each haha. And the nacho chips (tortilla chips)? Dipped in the sauces on the side, there’s nothing more to say.

They’re really sauces for dipping or spooning onto the tacos, but they were insanely good with the nachos too! I especially loved the salsa and guacamole. My girlfriend preferred the slightly tangy sour cream and salsa.

Since there are four different sauces, you can choose whichever one suits your taste haha.

Next were the chicken taco and carnitas taco! Starting with the chicken taco: grilled chicken topped with corn and cheese, with a flavor that pretty much anyone would enjoy.

The carnitas taco has tender-cooked pork and lots of cilantro, and the saltiness of the meat works beautifully with cilantro’s bright kick! Cilantro comes sprinkled on all the tacos, so ask for it to be left off beforehand if you can’t eat it~

It all comes together on one square tray, and isn’t the look + portion + value just crazy? Plus, the taste is crazy good too.

How much food is it for two people?

It’s a little more than two adults can eat, and probably just right for three light eaters? haha. I really vouch for the taste, so just go try it!

Final thoughts

The flavor held its own even compared with Mexican food in Mexico. Next time, I’d like to try some other kinds of tacos too haha. My final score is 5 out of 5~~!
