In short

Roi Sikdang is a Japanese home-style restaurant in Misa, Hanam, Gyeonggi. I tried the fried eggplant meat rice bowl set and mini fritters near the Mangwolcheon Stream trail. Verdict: a warm, quiet choice for solo dining or a date.

As you walk through the alley near the Mangwolcheon Stream trail in Misa, you’ll come across Roi Sikdang (로이식당), a cozy Hanam Misa restaurant. It is also an easy, leisurely walk from Misa Station. 😁

The moment I stopped in front of it, I felt as though I had unexpectedly found a friendly little neighborhood restaurant while traveling. Even before opening the door, its warmth came through and made my heart feel all soft—it is the kind of place you happily walk into.

Once inside, retro vintage lights fill the space with a calm, subtle orange warmth.

With dark wood furniture, simple lighting, and charming little decorations, it felt like stepping into a small neighborhood restaurant somewhere in Japan. I could enjoy my meal in such a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

As I looked over the menu, I could feel the care put into every dish. To bring out the flavor of the rice, they carefully blend Samgwang rice from Gyeongju and Sindongjin rice from Buyeo, then cook it with Jirisan bedrock water.. (Where else would I get to taste rice like this~🤨) The note saying they cook without artificial seasonings, letting the ingredients shine on their own, had me excited before I had even ordered.

The menu had a wide range of Japanese dishes, starting with Cantonese-style sukiyaki, along with a yuzu-marinated salmon set served in an onggi earthenware vessel, perilla oil soba, udon, and pollock roe pasta~ (Please check the menu photos above for the full menu~😋) I had originally thought about trying the pollock roe pasta, but I really wanted to taste the rice made by the owner here, so I ordered a rice bowl.

🍆 Fried eggplant meat rice bowl set ₩16,900 You can choose between the set and the à la carte version.. I chose the set, which comes with steamed egg, takoyaki (octopus balls), and fruit for dessert. (À la carte ₩14,900)

Doesn’t this look both delicious and beautiful? 😍😍 You mix the rice with the spicy meat sauce, then eat it with eggplant, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, and fried lotus root~

Wow~~~ But... the rice, sauce, and eggplant... every single thing was so delicious~🤩🤩 One of its charms was getting to experience all kinds of textures in one bowl. The combination of ingredients and textures was perfect, so I scraped it clean right down to the final bite. 😆

Mini fritters

Mini fritters ₩8,000 I ordered these mini fritters alongside the meal because the selection—1 shrimp, 1 crab meat, and 3 chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken)—looked so good. I especially loved the fried crab meat. It was nice to enjoy fritters with different flavors alongside the rice bowl, and I think they would be great with beer too.
