Gwacheon Korean restaurant: Bbibisam stone-pot roe rice sets
In short
Bbibisam Gwacheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant on Saesulmak-gil in Gwacheon, where I had stone-pot octopus roe rice and stone-pot roe rice sets with a friend for dinner. The popping roe and chewy octopus worked well together, and the hamburger steak with a soft-cooked egg made it filling. Table ordering and payment were easy, though collecting food and clearing trays were self-service.

I met a friend after work in Gwacheon and had dinner at Bbibisam Gwacheon Main Branch (비비삼 과천본점). We ordered the stone-pot octopus roe rice set and stone-pot roe rice set, and the hamburger steak made for a filling meal.

Where are Bbibisam Gwacheon Main Branch and parking located?
The restaurant is at Unit 101, 1F, 10-13 Saesulmak-gil, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do. According to the original post, it is open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with last orders at 8:30 PM. For parking, I used a nearby public lot; the listed rate was ₩900 for the first 30 minutes and ₩400 for each additional 10 minutes.
The exterior looked simple and clean. When I went in, a staff member greeted us kindly and explained the menu.

How do you order, and how much do the basic dishes cost?
Each table had a kiosk, so we could browse the menu, order, and pay from our seats. I was told to ask a staff member separately if paying with cash. Namul bibimbap (mixed rice with seasoned vegetables) started at ₩9,000.

We ordered the stone-pot octopus roe rice set, stone-pot roe rice set, and Coke Zero. At the time of my visit, there was also a notice that taking part in a Naver receipt review could add mini Namdo cockles for ₩500.

How do the self bar and food collection work?
At the self bar toward the back, I could help myself to side dishes, small plates, and water. It was convenient to take what I needed during the meal.

The bibimbap came with sesame oil already added, and I could add more from the self bar if I wanted. Soup was available too, and I collected our drinks from the self bar as well.

I drank my Coke Zero while we waited. Once the food was ready, an alert came through the table kiosk, and we collected it ourselves from the serving counter. We also cleared our trays ourselves after eating.

What came with the stone-pot roe rice set, and how did it taste?
The stone-pot roe rice and stone-pot octopus roe rice came in hot stone bowls. The set also included hamburger steak, so it felt more substantial than I expected.

The restaurant described it as to-ryeom bibimbap, meaning rice mixed after being warmed with broth, and recommended mixing it with chopsticks rather than a spoon. It was described as low-sodium bibimbap; I could call a staff member to request gochujang if needed. Gim garu (seasoned seaweed flakes) was on the table.
Because we ordered roe rice, we mixed it with spoons. The seasoning was right for me, so I did not add gochujang or anything else at first. The popping roe and the crisp, chewy octopus texture went especially well together.

Adding a little gim garu midway gave it a nuttier flavor. I enjoyed how the same roe rice tasted different before and after adding it.

The hamburger steak came with a soft-cooked egg. It was good with the moist egg, but I especially liked eating it with the roe rice. Pairing the mild roe rice with the hamburger steak made the meal more filling.
The restaurant was tidy, and the self-service setup for anything I needed was convenient. I had dinner with a friend this time, but I thought it would also be fine for a meal alone. Next time, I would like to try another bibimbap dish.
