Gwacheon Korean restaurant for a child-friendly bibimbap lunch: Bibisam

In short

Bibisam Gwacheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant near Government Complex Gwacheon Station in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi. I visited for Saturday lunch with my elementary-school-aged child and had yukhoe bibimbap, a vegetable bibimbap and tteokgalbi set, and seasoned cockles; my child ate the bibimbap and tteokgalbi well. The seating felt comfortable for us and seemed manageable for solo diners, but there is no dedicated parking.

I visited Bibisam Gwacheon Main Branch (비비삼 과천본점) with my elementary-school-aged child for Saturday lunch. We chose it because we like bibimbap, and had a filling meal of vegetable bibimbap with tteokgalbi (grilled minced meat patty) and a fried egg.

Was it busy at weekend lunch?

I visited after hearing that a new bibimbap restaurant had opened in Gwacheon. I heard there can be a long wait on weekdays, but I was able to eat comfortably when I went at noon on Saturday.

Where is it, and is parking available?

The address is 101, 1F, 10-13 Saesulmak-gil, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It is close to Exit 11 of Government Complex Gwacheon Station, so it was convenient to reach by public transit. The hours listed in the original post are 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.

There is no dedicated parking. If you visit by car, you will need to use a nearby public parking lot.

Is it comfortable with a child or for solo dining?

The restaurant was generally clean, with two- and four-person tables. It was comfortable to sit with my child. I did not visit alone, but the layout looked suitable for individual meals, so it did not seem too daunting for a solo lunch nearby.

We ordered using the tablet at the table, then checked the notification when the food was ready.

The self-service bar had tableware, white kimchi, sesame oil, and soup. It was convenient to take what we needed, and the white kimchi and soup went well alongside the bibimbap.

What bibimbap is on the menu, and how much is it?

  • Vegetable bibimbap ₩9,000
  • Bulgogi bibimbap ₩10,000
  • Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap ₩11,000
  • Octopus bibimbap ₩11,000
  • Dolsot albap (hot stone pot fish roe rice) ₩10,000
  • Dolsot octopus albap ₩12,000
  • Vegetable bibimbap and tteokgalbi set ₩12,500

We ordered Hwangdeung torem Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap, the Hwangdeung torem vegetable bibimbap set, and seasoned cockles. The vegetable bibimbap set came with tteokgalbi and a fried egg.

Was the reddish bibimbap too spicy for a child?

At first, the rice itself had a reddish color, so I wondered whether it would be too spicy for my child. After trying it, it was less spicy than I expected, and my elementary-school-aged child ate it well.

As I gently mixed it with chopsticks, the vegetables and rice combined evenly while the grains of rice still had texture. However, if you prefer mixing white rice directly with gochujang (Korean red chili paste), you may feel differently depending on your taste.

How is the Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap served?

The Korean beef yukhoe was not placed on top of the bibimbap; it came on a separate plate.

I liked being able to add as much as I wanted to the bibimbap. The yukhoe had a subtle sweetness and went well with it. I enjoyed slightly different flavors by adding yukhoe or eating it mostly with the vegetables.

How were the vegetable bibimbap set and seasoned cockles?

The vegetable bibimbap was mild overall. It tasted like something I would think of on a day when I wanted a meal with vegetables, and I liked that the set let us share tteokgalbi with my child.

The Korean pork tteokgalbi was well coated in sauce, so it was good even without additional side dishes. Adding the soft-yolk fried egg to the bibimbap gave it a nuttier flavor.

The seasoned cockles we ordered separately were good for changing up the flavor between bites of bibimbap. Each table also had gim (roasted seaweed), which we sprinkled over the bibimbap to taste.

What was best about lunch with a child?

The vegetable bibimbap set was filling because it came with tteokgalbi and a fried egg.

Each serving came on its own tray, which made it easy to eat with my child. My child ate the bibimbap and tteokgalbi well, and the seating was comfortable, so it was a decent place for a family lunch.
