Chicken galbi restaurant in Cheonho booked for four: Ondogye annex
In short
Ondogye is a charcoal chicken galbi (grilled marinated chicken) restaurant a 3-minute walk from Cheonho Station Exit 6 in Gangdong, Seoul. Four of us booked the annex, at the entrance of the baby octopus alley, through Naver and ordered four servings of garlic salt chicken galbi with steamed egg and a vegetable skewer, and a staff member split the pre-grilled chicken across two pans to finish it. The chicken at Ondogye tasted clean and lightly seasoned with no gamey smell, so even our parents left happy.

Ondogye is only a 3-minute walk from Cheonho Station Exit 6, so it was really easy to get to, and the annex sits right at the entrance of the octopus-restaurant alley. I visited the annex. This is honestly my nth visit, so I can recommend it with full confidence 😊

Full before 6pm on a Sunday: book through Naver
I booked ahead on Naver before going, and even though it was a Sunday, the place was already fully booked before 6pm. I really recommend reserving in advance through Naver 👍
Three chicken galbi flavors on the menu
There are three types of chicken galbi to choose from — garlic salt, soy sauce, or spicy sauce. The salt-grilled chicken thigh meat and fried gizzards also looked like real specialties.

They said if you write a Naver receipt review, you get a free rice ball or a vegetable skewer (1pc) — ❤️ definitely take part in that ❤️
What we ordered for four people
There were four of us, so we ordered four servings of garlic salt chicken galbi at ₩17,000 each, one steamed egg at ₩5,000, and one vegetable skewer at ₩8,000.

These are the standard side dishes that come with the meal — white sauce, red sauce, wasabi, pickled radish, green onion kimchi, and shredded green onion, plus a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) on the side.

Complimentary fried gizzards and steamed egg
The fried gizzard they gave us as a complimentary dish! The chewy texture was so good and there was zero gamey smell, which made it a great appetizer.

Steamed egg, ₩5,000. Ordering this super fluffy steamed egg as a side dish made the meal so much more satisfying. A warm steamed egg to warm up the stomach 🙆

Garlic salt chicken galbi arrives pre-grilled
Since it comes pre-grilled when you order, you can eat it much faster. Rice cakes and mushrooms are prepared alongside it too.

A staff member grills the meat perfectly for you, so all you have to do is watch their flashy scissor work and wait for it to finish cooking. For our four servings, they grilled two portions on the first pan and two on the second 😊

They cut everything into such neat, clean pieces that it looked amazing ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ I had also ordered the vegetable skewer, so I ate it together with the second pan. The grill marks on the chicken skin made it look especially delicious 😋

How did the chicken galbi taste?
There was absolutely no gamey smell, just a clean, mild flavor, so I think people of any age would love this garlic salt chicken galbi 😊

Even people who don't like salty food will be happy with this — I can guarantee the seasoning isn't strong at all.

They recommended wrapping the chicken with pickled radish and wasabi first. The combination of the savory chicken fat and the cool, crisp radish was absolutely delicious 👍

Order the vegetable skewer alongside it
Eating the vegetable skewer alongside the chicken made everything even tastier. The skewer had zucchini, bell pepper, eggplant, mushroom, green onion, and cherry tomato on it. They really seem to have picked out vegetables that taste great grilled 👍

Such a colorful vegetable skewer, right up my mom's alley 👍 I really recommend ordering the vegetable skewer alongside your meal.

We finished off with a cool, soft strawberry ice cream for dessert ❤️ and it made me so happy ❤️
Ondogye is clean and mild enough to fully satisfy even picky-eating parents. It's light, tender, and absolutely delicious, so you have to try it. I strongly recommend it as one of the best restaurants in Cheonho 😋
