I was really craving thick pork belly today!! But honestly, I was craving kimchi stew loaded with meat even more.
So I went back to the place that comes to mind whenever I think of pork kimchi stew — a spot I really enjoyed for both kimchi stew and pork belly — Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji. Turns out there's a Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji in Cheongdang-dong now. Why didn't anyone tell me!!!! I'm running straight there for pork belly and kimchi stew. If you're looking for good restaurants in Cheongdang-dong, Cheonan, come running too!
Where is Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch, and where do you park?
Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch is located at 39 Cheongsu 9-ro, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, and is open from 11:30 to 24:00. For parking, you can use the public lot in front of the store.
The Cheongdang branch has pretty long hours. Open from lunch through night, it seems perfect for lunch, dinner, or a work dinner spot. We drove there, and while it's not a dedicated lot for Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji, there's a free public parking lot right in front of the store, so we parked there and went in to eat.
Isn't the Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji mascot so cute haha. Turning it into a cute fat pig.
Inside Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji: seating, mood and reservations
We made a reservation ahead of time, and when we arrived right on time, they had already set the table for us. Nice, nice — I was really hungry, so it was great to be ready to eat right away. If you're looking for a place for a work dinner or gathering in Cheongdang-dong, I'd recommend booking ahead.
The store is clean, and one side is sectioned off with a partition, which looked great for group gatherings haha. For meat dinners in Cheongdang-dong, go to Motttung!
They have baby chairs, and if you bring a child under 5, they give free soy sauce egg rice, so it seems like a great spot for a family meal out.
What to order at Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji, and the free side dishes
Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch has a kiosk at every table, so you can check the menu and order through it. Besides pork belly, they have pork jowl, makchang (grilled beef intestines), chadolbagi (thinly sliced beef brisket), and more — order whatever suits your taste.

Oh! When you order the meat, you have to order the kimchi stew at the same time. Is it a must? Yes!! haha The kimchi stew is a must!!!! Highly recommend it. It's slightly on the tangy side, and I was completely obsessed! It's just the right amount of sweet and sour, so my chopsticks kept going back for more. My friend who came with me also said it was so good and praised me for ordering it. The kimchi stew takes about 20 minutes to prepare, so order it as soon as you walk in!

These are the sides that come standard. Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji is a barbecue place where wrapping the meat in different combinations is the whole fun, so perilla leaves, aged kimchi, seaweed, radish, kelp, pollock roe jeotgal, and more come as basic sides, along with fried egg and corn cheese! There's also scallion sauce, soy sauce, hairtail jeotgal, and ssamjang (thick dipping paste) — so many varieties that you can eat in all kinds of ways.
You can help yourself comfortably from the self-serve bar.
Pork belly at 16,000 won per person, grilled and cut by the staff
That day at Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch we ordered two servings of pork belly (₩16,000 per person), kimchi stew (₩13,000), and two bowls of rice (₩1,000 each).

Once you order, the pork belly comes out, and the staff grill it right on the pan and even cut it into bite-sized pieces for you haha. There were a lot of customers, but the staff were so kind and grilled the meat for us, which made things so easy.
When you go out for pork belly or galbi (grilled short ribs), the most annoying part is grilling the meat yourself, so having them grill and cut it for you meant all we had to do was eat comfortably.
Fried egg, corn cheese, and doenjang stew as basic sides — how amazing is that! Totally generous!! The doenjang stew was also packed with ingredients and delicious.

Four pork belly wrap combos the owner recommends

You'd be missing out if you skipped these — the owner's recommended wrap flavors!! The staff grilled the meat for us and also recommended delicious combinations to wrap it in. Below are the scallion sauce and soy sauce — honestly, both are delicious. I think it's good to dip according to your own taste.

Pork belly + seaweed + sauce
Pork belly with seaweed is a surprisingly delicious combination. Other tables kept refilling their seaweed too — that's how good this combo is!

Pork belly + pickled radish + kelp + sauce
Radish with kelp was also surprisingly fresh and delicious!

Pork belly + hairtail jeotgal + perilla leaf
The combo of dipping the meat deeply into hairtail jeotgal simmered on the grill, then wrapping it with perilla leaf, was delicious too. They said it would taste like eel, and it kind of really did!!! The hairtail jeotgal itself was so good, I thought — this really is the owner's signature combo.

Pork belly + pollock roe jeotgal
Dipping the meat in pollock roe jeotgal was a real delicacy. With just pork belly, you can mix and match so many combinations that you never get tired of it and keep eating. Of course, the meat itself was fresh and thick, so the texture was great too.
Is the 13,000 won kimchi stew worth it? Portion and taste
The kimchi stew at Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch is ₩13,000 and, as noted, takes about 20 minutes. It arrived at just the right timing, right as we were finishing off the meat.

The Mottung kimchi stew I'd been craving so badly — you need to eat this regularly.

Can you see how loaded it is with ingredients? The kimchi stew is ₩13,000, but the portion is big enough for two people even if you just order the stew alone. It's spicy and pairs so well with the meat, so definitely order it as a side dish.

There's plenty of meat in it too, so piled on top of white rice, two bowls disappear in no time.
A tip for the spicy kimchi stew!!!! Try it with corn cheese mixed in. Not the owner's recommendation, but this hungry eater's own tip haha.
Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch is the place that comes to mind whenever I crave pork belly and great kimchi stew! A Cheonan meat restaurant and pork belly spot I want to visit again. If you're looking for great grilled meat in Cheonan, be sure to check it out.
