Tonkatsu restaurant near Gyodae Station with parking and waits: Kosi

In short

Kosi Gyodae Branch is a Japanese restaurant serving house-made udon noodles and tonkatsu on Seochodae-ro 48-gil near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. Two of us arrived right after break time, added one piece of tonkatsu to the tori-ten bukkake udon and ordered the half-and-half katsu udon set; the cold udon noodles were springy and the tonkatsu batter thin, and both bowls were cleared. Free parking in front of Kosi Gyodae Branch covers only 1 car on weekdays and 2 on weekends, and a line formed while we were still eating, so timing your visit matters.

What is Kosi Gyodae Branch, the tonkatsu and udon spot near Gyodae Station?

Kosi Gyodae Branch is an udon and tonkatsu Japanese restaurant on Seochodae-ro 48-gil near Gyodae Station. I was trying to figure out what to eat near my boyfriend's place when I heard there was a good tonkatsu spot in Gyodae, so I went to Kosi Gyodae Branch!! I ate so well I'd call it a proven cold udon and tonkatsu spot — here's my review!

What makes Kosi's house-made noodles and broth different?

Apparently Kosi is known across its branches for making noodles using the Sanuki method. The dough is made with just three ingredients — salt, water, and flour — and aged twice over 48 hours, which explains why the noodles had such unusual chewiness. The broth isn't just thrown together either; they bring in anchovies and kelp directly from the South Sea production areas to brew it, so you can tell they put care into the broth base from the start. Looking through blog reviews, a lot of people said the hand-made noodle process looked like something out of a craftsman documentary. A place that puts in this much effort deserves its reputation as a local favorite near Gyodae Station!

How many cars can park at Kosi Gyodae Branch?

Let me start with parking info. There is parking space in front of the store, but only 1 car can park for free on weekdays and 2 on weekends, so you may have to wait a bit if it's full! If the lot in front is full, Hanseong Parking Lot is 3 minutes away on foot, and you get 30 minutes free if you spend over ₩20,000 on your meal, so keep that in mind 🚗

When do the waiting lines form at Kosi Gyodae Branch?

We visited right after break time ended, and a waiting line formed while we were eating,,, It seems like waiting happens on weekday lunches or weekend dinners, so keep that in mind! (Which just means it's that good—!)

They were also running a review event. At the time of our visit, the review event was ongoing, and we got a free canned drink, which made for a happy start to the meal! When there are little events like this, you just can't skip them haha

Ordering at the kiosk: what we picked at Kosi Gyodae Branch

You order via kiosk! The moment I saw the menu, I had a happy dilemma about what to order, and in the end I went with the tori-ten bukkake udon while my boyfriend ordered the set meal with added half-and-half katsu udon!

While waiting for the order, it's convenient to grab what you need at the self-service corner ahead of time~

Tori-ten bukkake udon: is cold udon fine for a first try?

The tori-ten bukkake udon is a cold udon, and it was really a plot twist. Honestly I'd never had cold udon before so I ordered it half-doubtfully, but the noodles were so springy and chewy that after the first bite I was like 'wait, what is this' 😳 The rich, distinctive bukkake broth went perfectly with the noodles, and the inari sushi (fried tofu pouch rice) that came with it was sweet and tangy, so alternating between the udon and the inari meant I never got tired of it and ate it all up happily!

How was the half-and-half katsu set?

I stole a bite of my boyfriend's half-and-half katsu too — the cheese katsu side had cheese stretching out the moment it was cut, a sight that made your mouth water just looking at it, and when I actually tried it, it wasn't greasy at all, just savory, the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more. With udon added as part of the set, the value for money seems pretty good too.

The chicken that came with the tori-ten bukkake udon was so good too,,, oishii!!!!!!

Is adding one extra piece of tonkatsu worth it?

I added a piece of tonkatsu to the tori-ten bukkake udon, and you can see how thin the batter is and how thick the meat is ㅠ so good,,,

It was so fascinating how chewy the cold udon was!!!!!! My boyfriend and I couldn't stop marveling at it while we ate.

Would I go back to Kosi Gyodae Branch?

In the end, we both cleaned our plates completely. It was truly my first time going, and Kosi Gyodae Branch exceeded my expectations. If you haven't tried cold udon yet, I really recommend using this chance to try it! For anyone looking for a good udon spot near Gyodae Station, this is a place I can confidently recommend 🤍
