Yeongdeungpo jokbal restaurant for cold mustard pork: Gwihan Jokbal

It had been a while since I’d craved sweet-tangy, sinus-tingling cold jokbal, so I visited Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo (귀한족발 영등포점), which I’d also ordered from for delivery before. 🍖

Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo is close to Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, and Times Square by Yeongdeungpo Station, so it is incredibly convenient for dropping in after shopping or having a drink on the way home from work.

The neat food-model display case and standing sign at the entrance had me salivating before I even stepped inside. 🤤

Once inside, I found the restaurant much bigger and more pleasant than I expected. Even the restroom inside was clean, which I appreciated.

A private second-floor room and varied menu

Reading the notice on the wall, I learned that there is a separate private room upstairs. It seems perfect for a Yeongdeungpo group dinner, a work get-together, or an intimate gathering to chat over wedding invitations. ✔️ The room can be booked by phone on weekdays, or via Naver Reservation on Friday through Sunday, so it would be wise to arrange it ahead for a group.

A quick look over the menu showed plenty to choose from: the signature Gwihan Jokbal, bossam (boiled pork wraps), a bojok set, spicy half-and-half jokbal, cold jokbal salad, and pollock jokbal. At lunchtime, there are good-value meal options including set meals and kimchi stew, so I can see why nearby office workers come here for lunch too.

Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo was overflowing with perks.

Seeing that they use Korean pork trotters gave me confidence. The complimentary spread—cool barley tea, bean sprout soup, fresh kimchi, seasoned shredded radish, seasoned chives, and fresh wrap vegetables—was laid out on an unusually square wooden board, which made it feel even neater.

Cold jokbal tossed with jellyfish salad and sharp mustard

At last, the cold jokbal I’d been waiting for arrived in a huge bowl, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the generous portion as soon as it hit the table.

Glossy, thick slices of jokbal were neatly arranged in the center, surrounded generously by fresh cabbage, red cabbage, carrot, bell pepper, cucumber, and jellyfish salad.

Seeing this substantial, generous spread in person, I immediately understood why people call it one of Yeongdeungpo’s standout restaurants.

Before mixing it with the vegetables, I tried the jokbal first. This chilled, pressed-meat-style jokbal had absolutely no unpleasant odor, and the skin had such a satisfyingly springy chew.

It was also a perfect match with the spicy seasoned shredded radish.

Wrapping up a big bite of jokbal and a piece of garlic in lettuce was seriously amazing,,

I poured on plenty of the mustard sauce that came with it—adjust it to your taste—and tossed everything together with the vegetables.

There was plenty of bell pepper, lettuce, and cabbage too, making this exactly the cold jokbal salad I had hoped for. It was bright and sharp, with a nutty richness like peanut sauce, and it really woke up my appetite,,!

The pleasantly chewy jellyfish salad and crisp vegetables brought the texture to life in every bite,, The pungent sauce cleanly cut through the richness of the meat, so my chopsticks never got a break.
