What did we see in Daehak-ro on my birthday?
For my birthday, my husband and I saw the play NEW Oh! My Ghost at Aruto Small Theater (아루또소극장) in Hyehwa's Daehak-ro. To start with the conclusion: it was so, so much fun! Even my husband was giggling the whole way through, so that tells you everything.
Today is my birthday! 🎂 My husband and I finally got a Daehak-ro date after a long time. Good food is nice and pretty presents are nice, but this year I wanted to make a slightly special memory. So we chose the popular Daehak-ro play NEW Oh! My Ghost. It was a day of proper laughter after ages. I laughed until my stomach hurt.
What kind of play is Oh! My Ghost at Aruto Small Theater?
NEW Oh! My Ghost is staged at Aruto Small Theater, 48 Daehakro 8ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and the poster billed it as Daehak-ro's first comic horror romance. I saw it on October 24, 2026, as a birthday date with my husband.

- 💕 Who with: my husband, as a birthday date
Just from the title, 'Oh! My Ghost,' it sounded like it would be fun! I wondered if it was a scary ghost story, but with comedy and romance promised too, I got even more curious.

Aruto Small Theater felt cute and cozy from the entrance, and inside there were photos of the actors and character introductions on the walls.

Checking out the actors' faces and roles before the show was a lot of fun too.
What was it like sitting in the front row of a small theater?
We watched Oh! My Ghost from the very front row! In a small theater, the front row shows you the actors' expressions, tiny gestures and even their eyes, so the sense of being right there was real.

Wow, small theater plays really are best from the front. Every expression looked so vivid, and even the small gestures and glances came through. That sense of being there, which you can't get from TV or film, is the charm of theater, I think.
The stage was also nicely decorated, more charming than I expected. A sofa, a bookshelf, a door and so on sat in a space washed with purple light, and it was fun how the mood changed with each scene. With the actors so close, it felt like we were inside the story with them.
Who stood out most? The deadpan acting of Taegu
If I had to pick the most memorable actor in Oh! My Ghost, it's definitely the actor playing Taegu! His deadpan acting in the comic scenes was the highlight.

Seriously, he was so good. His lines sounded natural, and his expressions and movements showed him fully absorbed in the character. He didn't force the laughs; he made the situations themselves so funny that I burst out laughing before I knew it.
My husband was laughing out loud beside me, and that was hilarious in itself! I don't often see him laugh that big, but that day he really laughed his head off. Even after the show, we talked about the actor who played Taegu for a long time.
Of course it wasn't only Taegu's actor: all four performers were great. The actors playing Jaerim, Hanbyeol and Seonhwa too! They gave it everything they had, which was wonderful to watch. Each brought out the charm of their character, and the four had great chemistry. It wasn't a show where just one person shines; I loved the energy of the four building it together.
It has a ghost, so isn't it scary?
A ghost does appear in Oh! My Ghost, but fun and laughter came across far more than fear. I think it's a play that even people who don't watch theater often can enjoy without pressure.
At first I wondered whether a play with a ghost might be a bit scary. But watching it, comic situations kept coming, a romantic mood slipped in, and laughs burst out at moments I didn't expect. Thanks to the actors' fast lines and natural chemistry, there wasn't a dull moment. All the way through, I kept wondering about the next scene and what the actors would show us.
I won't spoil anything. You have to see it yourself to really feel the fun!
Is there photo time after the show?
Oh! My Ghost had photo time with the actors after the show! Photos and recording are not allowed during the performance, though, so please follow the viewing etiquette.

They made hearts on stage and struck cute ghost poses, and the cheerful mood carried on after the show. Looking at the photo brings back how much fun it was. All four said goodbye with bright smiles to the very end, so we left the theater feeling good.
Is it worth recommending as a birthday date in Daehak-ro?
I really want to recommend Aruto Small Theater's Oh! My Ghost as a birthday or anniversary date in Daehak-ro. It'd be fun for couples, and I think also with friends or family.
Today was my birthday. Walking around Daehak-ro with my husband, eating something tasty, and watching a fun play made the day feel really full. Seeing my husband laugh beside me made me even happier.
The older I get, the more time spent laughing and enjoying things together feels more precious than expensive gifts. This play felt like a proper birthday present. The Taegu actor's performance in particular will stay with me for a long time.
A Daehak-ro play date where we laughed until our stomachs hurt, for the first time in a while! It was a happy time that made my 2026 birthday extra special. ❤️
