Daytime soju Korean BBQ near Eunpyeong-gu Office: 600g pork, Yukjjeup
In short
Yukjjeup Nokbeon (육쯥 녹번점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant specializing in Jirisan aged pork, near Nokbeon Station and the main gate of Eunpyeong-gu Office in Eunpyeong, Seoul. Two friends ordered the Yukjjeup 600g sampler (₩54,000) at lunch and drank ₩1,000 opening-event soju, and the aged pork neck, thick-cut pork belly and gabrisal (pork shoulder cap) the owner grilled for them were juicy and pleasantly chewy. I found a BBQ place in Seoul where you can drink soju for ₩1,000.
It's Yukjjeup Nokbeon (육쯥 녹번점). The aged meat is high quality, the staff grill it for you, and it's a newly opened branch. It's open at lunch too and has a lunch special, haha. We ordered the 600g sampler with thick pork belly, pork neck and gabrisal (the ridge meat by the pork shoulder) on one plate, and had a proper glass of soju in the middle of the day.

Yukjjeup Nokbeon exterior and atmosphere
White sign with a big Yukjjeup logo

The white sign has the Yukjjeup name in big letters, so it stands out from far away.

Clean dining room with good ventilation

The whole place was clean and well ventilated. Four-person tables are spaced apart, so two of us had plenty of room. We put on the white aprons hanging on the chairs and ordered on the tablet at the table.
The meat-aging fridge in the dining room
Next to the counter is a glass-door aging fridge with chunks of meat on every shelf. Seeing the aged meat, I already thought, this is going to be good 😎

How was the Yukjjeup 600g pork sampler?
Side dishes and table setting

The table comes set with lettuce, chili peppers, white kimchi, green onion kimchi and myeongi namul (wild garlic-chive pickles), and the seasoned bean sprouts come topped with plenty of sauce.

The basic side dishes were neat and a good lineup,

and the sauces were varied too: pink salt, salted shrimp, ssamjang (dipping paste) and meljeot (salted anchovy sauce).
Aged pork sampler served in whole slabs

The Yukjjeup sampler (₩54,000) is a 600g plate of Jirisan aged pork with thick pork belly, signature pork neck and gabrisal.

The pork neck and thick pork belly come in big chunks, and the gabrisal is sliced long and plated alongside. The fat in the pork neck was evenly spread through the lean, so you could see the thickness and grain even before grilling. Grilling vegetables like eggplant and king oyster mushrooms came too, and we cooked them on one side of the grill.
Korean BBQ where the owner grills and cuts

At Yukjjeup Nokbeon, the owner put the pork neck on whole and cooked it until grill marks formed on the surface. Then he cut it into long strips with tongs and scissors, grilled it again, and finally cubed it into bite-size pieces on the grill. Since he handled everything from grilling to cutting, it was so easy to just chat with my friend.
Juicy, chewy aged pork

It's definitely aged meat, and the quality showed. The pork belly, pork neck and gabrisal were all good cuts,

with juices glistening on the surface, and one bite was full of juice and chewy.
Free doenjang stew for arriving before 18:00
The doenjang stew at Yukjjeup Nokbeon comes boiling in an earthenware pot with cubed radish, tofu, zucchini and green onion. The broth wasn't salty but rich and savory, and it was packed with tofu, so it was really filling.

I ordered a bowl of rice and finished with a spoonful of rice and the doenjang stew 😁

Tips for enjoying Korean BBQ at Yukjjeup Nokbeon

First bite with pink salt

For the first bite I dipped it in just a little pink salt to taste the meat itself, and the pork neck was bursting with juice.
Warm the meljeot (anchovy sauce) on the grill
The owner set the small metal cup of meljeot on the edge of the grill to warm it up. It was great for dipping the meat right in, and the saltiness cut the richness, the best combo 👍
White kimchi, mushrooms and lettuce wraps
I wrapped meat, salted shrimp and grilled garlic in white kimchi. For lettuce and perilla leaves I added green onion kimchi, switching up the combo with every wrap, and adding mushrooms and eggplant was honestly the best 👍
