Gyeongju Korean set meal with grilled mackerel swap: Dongyang Baekban
Dongyang Baekban Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Main Branch is a Korean restaurant set in a renovated old house in Hwangnam-dong on Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. The writer visited with one companion at 1pm on a Wednesday and ordered the Sumi dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken) set for 50,000 won, receiving grilled mackerel in place of the sold-out yangnyeom gejang (marinated raw crab). The herbal medicine broth was not bitter and seasoned just right from the first bite, and the set was best mixed into the caviar egg rice and pollack roe rice, then finished with homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink).
