Jung, Seoul cooking bar for weekend wine and pasta: Hey Jinny

I visited Hey Jinny (을지로 헤이지니) at 3 p.m. on a weekend. In the cozy space, I had wine by the glass and a rum and Coke with oil pasta and eohyang gaji (crispy eggplant in a savory sauce). I thought it would also suit a daytime date with a drink.

The interior was cozy and charming. I thought it would suit not only a date but also a birthday or a gathering to share wedding invitations. The plates the food came on and the glasses also matched my taste, adding to the feeling of the meal.

There were many food pairings that felt new to me on the menu, so I had a hard time choosing.

The Cuba Libre rum and Coke and house wine by the glass arrived first. Even at 3 p.m. on the weekend when I visited, I could have a drink with my meal. The house wine by the glass was a red wine, which I like, and I enjoyed its taste too.

How did the oil pasta and eohyang gaji taste?

Next came the Osaka niboevi oil pasta. I was told to mix it well, so I mixed the ingredients evenly.

It was nutty with anchovies, shrimp, and baek myeongran (pollock roe). I usually like nutty pasta, so it suited my taste, and I also liked the texture of shrimp throughout.

I do not usually enjoy eggplant, but I ordered the eohyang gaji because I wanted to try it. Unlike the eggplant aroma and texture I expected, it was crispy, and the sauce was delicious too. It paired well with the wine and rum and Coke we ordered.
