Gwangalli brunch café: warm Egg in Hell & cold acai bowl, Famous Benny
In short
Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is a brunch café tucked inside Millak-dong in Suyeong, Busan, serving brunch from 8am. On a return visit, the writer shared avocado toast (₩16,000), ham cheese toast (₩9,000), Egg in Hell (₩15,000) and an acai bowl (₩9,000) with a café mocha and a lemonade, and found that none of the four dishes tasted alike. The verdict: alternating the warm Egg in Hell with the cold acai bowl was the best combination at Famous Benny.

I tried avocado toast, Egg in Hell and an acai bowl at Famous Benny, a brunch spot in Gwangalli.

Famous Benny: an early brunch spot in Gwangalli
Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch (페이머스 베니 광안리점) is a café in Millak-dong that serves brunch from 8am. There are a few places I think of when I want an early brunch in Gwangalli, and this is one of them. The first time, I went because brunch starts at 8am, but this time I wanted to try a wider range of the menu, so I came back.

What did I order at Famous Benny?
On this revisit I ordered avocado toast, ham cheese toast, Egg in Hell and an acai bowl, with a café mocha and a lemonade to drink. Last time I mostly had toast, but the dishes here don't all taste alike, so ordering several and sharing works well.

- Avocado toast ₩16,000
- Ham cheese toast ₩9,000
- Egg in Hell ₩15,000
- Acai bowl ₩9,000
I picked two toasts, a warm Egg in Hell and a cold acai bowl. Mixing it up like this was more filling for breakfast than sticking to a single dish.

Location and atmosphere of Famous Benny Gwangalli
Famous Benny isn't right on the Gwangalli beachfront; it's tucked inside Millak-dong. Big windows let in plenty of light, so the café is bright in the morning, and before the crowds arrive there's room to sit.

I'm often up and moving early, so I like that I can have coffee and brunch together from this hour. It's a place I think of every now and then for coffee plus a simple breakfast.

Avocado toast ₩16,000: a mild breakfast option
The avocado toast comes with a generous pile of avocado and vegetables on the bread. The avocado was soft, so it wasn't dry with the bread, and the whole thing tasted clean and mild.

The bread is slightly crisp outside and chewy inside, so the texture with the soft avocado was really good. It's a nice pick when you want to avoid anything heavy or strong first thing in the morning.

Ham cheese toast ₩9,000: the one I reordered
I had the ham cheese toast last time too, so I ordered it again.

It's a basic toast with ham and cheese, but the bread is crisp so it never felt dull. The salty ham and cheese go nicely with a drink. Dipping it in the sauce that comes with it makes the flavor a bit richer, and I liked it better that way.

Egg in Hell ₩15,000: my first time trying it
Famous Benny's Egg in Hell (eggs baked in tomato sauce) has an egg in warm tomato sauce, topped with cheese and vegetables. Of the new dishes I tried this time, I was most curious about this one.
When I broke the egg and mixed it into the tomato sauce, the tangy tomato flavor got much softer. The cheese adds a rich, nutty note, and it definitely whetted my appetite more than toast alone.

Putting the sauce on the bread that came with it was tasty, and dipping the other toasts I ordered in it gave them a different flavor too. If you want something warm with your morning meal, I thought Egg in Hell was a good choice.

Acai bowl ₩9,000: a cold dish to nibble between bites
The acai bowl is cold and tangy, so it was nice to eat between bites of toast or Egg in Hell. The berry flavor comes first, and with banana and granola you get sweetness and a crunchy texture too. The peanut butter part is nutty, and it went surprisingly well with the tang of the acai.

If you prefer fruit or something cold to a heavy, strongly flavored breakfast, I'd recommend the acai bowl too.

Which dishes go best with the café mocha and lemonade?
The café mocha went well with the salty ham cheese toast, and the lemonade went well with the Egg in Hell and acai bowl. The mocha isn't just chocolate; you taste the coffee too, so it pairs nicely with toast. With a salty dish like the ham cheese toast, the mocha's sweetness came through even more. The lemonade is refreshing and good alongside Egg in Hell or the acai bowl.

After eating all four dishes, which combination was best?
My favorite combination at Famous Benny was eating the warm Egg in Hell and taking a spoonful of acai bowl in between. The avocado toast was mild, and the ham cheese toast was salty and nutty. The Egg in Hell has a warm tomato sauce flavor and the acai bowl is cold and tangy, so the dishes didn't overlap. Adding one Egg in Hell or acai bowl was better than ordering only toasts.

For me, Famous Benny is still a great morning brunch café in Gwangalli. You can keep it simple with avocado toast or ham cheese toast, or add Egg in Hell for something more filling.

Add the acai bowl and it works well for sharing among several people too. If you're looking for an early brunch in Gwangalli or Millak-dong, I'd go back to Famous Benny.
