Goyu is a great-atmosphere fusion Korean restaurant I'd recommend for lunch on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju.

I tried the doenjang ssambap, hanwoo yukhoe buckwheat noodles, eggplant gangjeong, and hanwoo bulgogi — here's my honest review hahahaha

Inside Goyu: is there room for a suitcase at the table?

Goyu, a fusion Korean restaurant that's great for lunch on Hwangnidan-gil, has everything from 2-seat tables to spacious 4-seat tables, so it's also good for a Gyeongju family trip. There's a good amount of space between tables, so even though I went straight from Gyeongju Terminal with my suitcase in tow on the first day, it was easy to keep my luggage there.

Nice touch: there are hair ties on every table

What to order at Goyu: an honest taste review of the fusion Korean dishes

The basic side dish is beef radish soup, and it's rich and delicious

Goyu, a new Hwangnidan-gil restaurant in Gyeongju, has so many menu items that it's great for ordering a bunch with friends to share.

I ended up over-ordering because I got greedy picking things, but everything was delicious, so let me give you a genuine review of what I ate.

Cold pork with gangdoenjang and kale ssambap, 18,000 won

The cold pork ssambap with doenjang — I'd say this might be the signature menu item of Goyu, a fusion Korean restaurant in Gyeongju, since I saw it at every single table.

The doenjang sauce is spread outside the wrap, so you can scoop as much as you like — actually made it easier to control the seasoning.

The doenjang was packed with hearty ingredients too — tofu, mushrooms, onion, zucchini, all simmered soft, and they went really well with the rice. If your stomach's a bit tired from all the eating out on your Gyeongju trip, recharge with some Korean food at Goyu, a Hwangnidan-gil restaurant.

Hanwoo yukhoe buckwheat noodles, 18,000 won

At Goyu, a Hwangnidan-gil restaurant, it's hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef), so it's fresh and even more delicious — I never knew yukhoe would go so well with bibim noodles haha.

I usually have yukhoe as bibimbap, but since I already had rice with the cold pork ssambap, having noodles instead was a perfect balance.

October in Gyeongju has nice weather too, so I'd recommend enjoying a cool bibim noodle dish with yukhoe for lunch on Hwangnidan-gil.

The kimchi at Goyu, a Korean restaurant in Hwangnidan-gil, looks great too, right? It has that fresh-cut gutjeori feel like the kimchi at good kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) places, and piled on the thick-cut cold pork, this place basically becomes a suyuk (boiled pork) spot too, haha.

What comes in the Goyu set menu

There's a set menu that combines cold pork ssambap with doenjang and kale + hanwoo yukhoe buckwheat noodles + hanwoo bulgogi + a free drink, so if you're stuck on what to order, I'd recommend the set.

But I added one more side dish on top. It ended up being almost three portions' worth, but hey, we just treated it as a travel-anniversary feast .... haha

Eggplant gangjeong for 9,000 won: the best part of the meal

I've had fried eggplant at plenty of Chinese restaurants,

but you have to order the eggplant gangjeong at Goyu, a Hwangnidan-gil restaurant in Gyeongju

The sauce reminds you of yangnyeom chicken, and the batter is genuinely crispy-crispy — a flavor everyone's bound to like.

The eggplant gangjeong is served hot, so it also pairs well with the bibim buckwheat noodles. If you're visiting as a pair, I'd recommend swapping out the bulgogi for the eggplant gangjeong instead.

I found a winning spot in Gyeongju and started my trip in a great mood. Recommending this one for your autumn Gyeongju trip too!
