Sokcho sundubu with baby chairs and a dog room: Yetgoeul Sundubu
In short
Yetgoeul Sundubu is a Korean restaurant in the Haksapyeong area of Nohak-dong, Sokcho, where the tofu and sundubu (soft tofu) have been made in house for 40 years. Yetgoeul Sundubu has a separate dog-friendly dining room plus baby chairs and baby dishes, so this first meal of the trip with a dog and a child meant mild chodang sundubu and spicy abalone jjamppong sundubu served with cauldron rice. Two very different bowls on one table make Yetgoeul Sundubu an easy call for families in Sokcho.

You've got to eat well for your first meal on a Sokcho trip if you want to enjoy the whole day properly haha. I travel mainly for the food, so the first meal absolutely has to be good!
This time, our first meal on a Sokcho trip was at Yetgoeul Sundubu. It's been running in Sokcho's Nohak-dong for a whopping 40 years, so I went in with high expectations — and getting to taste their own handmade sundubu (soft tofu) and tofu made it even better~

Parking and opening hours at Yetgoeul Sundubu
You can park right in front of Yetgoeul Sundubu, so parking is super convenient!!

Yetgoeul Sundubu, this Sokcho sundubu favorite, is open from 7am to 8pm, with a break time from 3:30pm to 5pm. It's also a great spot to stop for breakfast before starting the day's itinerary.
They only use 100% domestic Yeoncheon beans and deep East Sea water to make the tofu and sundubu, which made me even more curious~~! I heard they use good ingredients right down to fresh vegetables and seafood, so anyone looking for good food in Sokcho should really check this place out haha. The interior is spacious too, so a lot of tour bus groups come by.

The separate dog-friendly dining room
And if you're planning a Sokcho trip with your dog, Yetgoeul Sundubu has a separate dog-dining room, so you can eat without worrying about your pup!
I bring my dog to Sokcho often, and whenever I do, the first thing I check is whether a place is pet-friendly~ Yetgoeul Sundubu in Sokcho has this dedicated dog-dining room, so I could visit worry-free.

What's on the menu at Yetgoeul Sundubu
The menu isn't just sundubu. Along with chodang sundubu and spicy sundubu, they also have a grilled pollack set, pollack hangover soup, and sirloin tofu steak — plenty of variety to pick from depending on your taste.
Since there are dishes kids can eat too, this Sokcho sundubu spot is perfect for a family meal hahaha. They also developed a tricolor tofu made with beet and green tea juice, so tofu lovers would really enjoy this place!!

We ordered the chodang sundubu and the abalone jjamppong sundubu. With baby chairs and baby dishes well prepared, Yetgoeul Sundubu in Sokcho is also great to visit with kids hahaha.

Side dishes, cauldron rice and nurungji (scorched rice)
Every side dish came out neat and tidy! From pickled vegetables and napa kimchi to soybean pulp, savory pancakes, salted squid, and various seasoned greens, there was so much variety you'd feel full with just a bowl of rice.

The tofu is homemade, and it was seriously delicious ㅠㅠ

They also serve the rice in a cast-iron pot, so after finishing the rice, you get to enjoy the savory nurungji (scorched rice) leftover in the pot. Having a warm bowl of rice and soup properly from the morning made the start of the trip feel really solid. The pot rice also had potato, sweet pumpkin, peas, and jujube mixed in, which made it feel extra special >.<

How does the chodang sundubu taste?
First, the chodang sundubu was really smooth and mild without any harsh edge, making it good to eat with a kid. Rather than pouring soy sauce in right away here, I'd recommend tasting the clear sundubu on its own first^^
Maybe because of the Yeoncheon beans and the deep East Sea water used to set it, you could really taste the beans' nutty flavor, and the texture was soft. If you want to fully taste the mild, clean flavor of Sokcho sundubu, the chodang sundubu would suit you well.

Abalone jjamppong sundubu with two whole abalones
The abalone jjamppong sundubu is a completely different vibe!!

It comes with a whopping two whole abalones, plus squid, shrimp, and mussels packed in generously — it looked appetizing just to see. The spicy, fiery jjamppong broth combined with the nutty sundubu made for a really great combo. It's spicy enough to warm you up from the inside, so it seemed like it would work well as a hangover-soothing dish during a trip too. If you're looking for a Sokcho sundubu favorite, you have to try the abalone jjamppong sundubu~~

Is Yetgoeul Sundubu worth it with a dog and a child?
It's an easy place to visit as a family and a really great spot for anyone looking for somewhere to eat with their pet hahaha. Since you can properly taste their own handmade tofu and sundubu, I felt like it was a good choice for the first meal of this Sokcho trip.
If you're looking for good food in Sokcho or a solid Sokcho sundubu restaurant, stop by Yetgoeul Sundubu! It's a pet-friendly Sokcho sundubu spot haha.
