Pho restaurant at Dongtan Station, 30-min Sunday wait: Mibundang
In short
Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is a pho restaurant on the first floor of the Dongtan Station Richian shopping arcade in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, known for its long queues. The writer arrived at 11am on a Sunday, waited about 30 minutes, then had brisket pho and a mixed appetizer platter (5 kinds, 8 pieces), a good match of clean, deeply beefy broth and crispy fried bites. Even with a queue, Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch turns tables quickly and stays quiet, so it suits a solo meal or a light lunch.

Why is there always a line at Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch?
Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch (미분당 동탄역점) is a pho place with people lining up every time I walk past near Dongtan Station. I kept wondering, "How good can it be if there's a wait every single time?" This time I finally went on a weekend, and now I really get why so many people recommend it as a top pho spot in Dongtan.

Maybe because it's a newly opened branch, it was really clean from the outside to the inside. The interior is simple with no fuss, and the tables were well kept, so I was happy from the first impression.

How ordering works and how long the Sunday wait is
At Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch you order and pay at the entrance first, then take a number tag and hang it at the designated spot, and a staff member shows you to a seat. I went at 11am on a Sunday and got in after waiting about 30 minutes!
The system is a little different from a typical restaurant, which I found fun. Food is brought out in order, so it isn't complicated and the flow is tidy. Even as a first-timer I had no trouble. While waiting, I killed time at a nearby Hayan*cha and Olive Young, haha.

It was a really hot day, and parasols and water were set out in front of the restaurant. Such a thoughtful touch from the owner!!

Is Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch good for eating alone?
Keeping the dining room quiet is what makes Mibundang its own thing. Lots of people were eating alone, and the mood made it easy to eat without feeling self-conscious.

People focus on the food rather than chatting loudly, so I could actually enjoy the taste and aroma of the broth.

I liked how clean the place was.

What does Mibundang's brisket pho taste like?
This time at Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch I ordered the brisket pho (chadol-yangji ssalguksu) and the mixed jeon platter (jeonsik, pan-fried and fried bites; 5 kinds, 8 pieces).

The broth was clean yet had a rich beefy aroma. I tried the broth first: not greasy, but deep in flavor, and there was a generous amount of thin-sliced brisket and beef shank, so I was satisfied the whole way through. The meat was tender and the noodles chewy, so I understood why it's called a go-to pho spot in Dongtan.

First-visit tip: ask staff for cilantro
Mibundang pho comes with bean sprouts by default, but if you ask the staff they'll bring cilantro separately. If you love cilantro like I do, I definitely recommend adding it. With cilantro, the local Vietnamese feel came through much more.

Is the 8-piece mixed appetizer platter worth adding?
Mibundang's mixed jeon platter has 5 kinds in 8 pieces, so you get to try a variety, and it was crispy outside and moist inside, which I really liked. Pho alone might leave you wanting a bit more, but adding the platter made it a much more filling meal.

Eating the crispy bites with the rich pho broth was an especially good combination. The staff were friendly and the food came out fast, so even with a wait, turnover was pretty quick.

Add hoisin and chili sauce a little at a time, halfway through
The tables at Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch have hoisin sauce and chili sauce. Enjoy the broth as it is at first, then add the sauces little by little from the middle of the bowl for a different flavor. If you like spicy food, a small amount of the provided spicy seasoning is delicious too.

Is Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch worth a return visit?
After trying it myself, I understood why the line was long every time I passed Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch. Both the food quality and the way it's run were satisfying, and it seemed like many people come back.
It's good for eating alone, good for a light lunch, and a place I'd return to when I crave a clean broth. If you're looking for a filling meal near Dongtan Station, I recommend Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch. Now that I've experienced why there's a wait, I want to try other menu items next time. The clean broth and quiet dining mood were both great, a pho spot worth visiting in Dongtan.
