Munjeong pot rice restaurant: Sunday eel ochazuke & steak, Gome Mui
In short
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese pot rice and tonkatsu restaurant in the basement of Terra Tower at Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. At a nearly full Sunday lunch at Gome Mui, the writer ate eel pot rice (23,000 won), saving the last third for ochazuke (rice in tea broth), and steak pot rice (17,000 won) mixed with a broken egg yolk. Gome Mui's eel pot rice was moist with no fishy smell and is the dish the writer recommends most.

Today I visited Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong (고메무이 송파문정점), a place near Munjeong Station where you can enjoy a neat, tidy meal. Gome Mui specializes in Japanese-style pot rice and tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), and it's well known by word of mouth as a Munjeong Station favorite.

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong atmosphere and seating
From outside, the clean white signboard catches your eye first~ The whole place feels modern and stylish 🤍

Inside, the kitchen is open, so you can watch the food being made, and everything was kept nice and clean.

Every table has a tablet ordering system, which made ordering simple. There are bar seats, tables for 2 and 4, and group seating, so it works for solo meals, dates, family dinners and office lunches.
I went on a Sunday lunchtime and it was packed, almost completely full. You can really feel it's a popular spot in Munjeong.

What we ordered at Gome Mui and the prices
- Eel pot rice ₩23,000
- Steak pot rice ₩17,000
Gome Mui says it uses a premium rice blended from top-grade rice, and the glossy, shiny pot rice looked so appetizing :)
How do you eat Gome Mui's eel pot rice?
The eel pot rice (₩23,000) comes with a guide sheet explaining how to eat it. The writer's recommended course is to taste the eel and rice separately first, then eat the last third as ochazuke (rice with broth poured over).

A neat spread that makes your mouth water,, ⭐️🫢 The guide sheet on how to enjoy the eel pot rice came with it, which made it even more enjoyable.

Eel pot rice side dishes: the mentaiko is the best
The side dishes came in good variety, and the mentaiko (spicy pollock roe) in particular was really good.

The salty mentaiko was a perfect match for the pot rice, and adding wasabi and salted seafood (jeotgal) made the flavor even better haha. Sipping the soup now and then kept the meal feeling clean and light.
First taste: eel and rice separately
First I tasted the eel and rice separately, without mixing.

The freshwater eel had no fishy smell, was mild yet moist, and was lightly grilled so its savory flavor really came through 🫶

The eel was so soft it felt like it melted in my mouth, and its rich umami went really well with the rice... 🤤

The last third of the eel pot rice as ochazuke
After eating a good amount, I scooped out some rice and eel into a bowl, added wasabi and seaweed flakes, and had it ochazuke-style 🥄

Ochazuke is a treat you just have to try, right?!
With the warm broth poured in, the eel's savoriness stayed, but the taste became much milder and cleaner.

Please eat the last third of your pot rice as ochazuke..⭐️
Even without side dishes, just a little eel sauce made the rice go down easily. It was the best dish of the meal, and I personally recommend it strongly.
What does Gome Mui's signature steak pot rice taste like?

Second was Gome Mui's signature steak pot rice (₩17,000) 🍴 It's pot rice with premium wagyu and a special sauce, and it looked really appetizing from the start :)

The meat was very tender with a good chew. With the sauce that came alongside, it was even better?! The more I chewed, the more flavor filled my mouth haha.
Breaking the egg yolk and mixing it in
I broke the egg yolk, mixed it with the rice into a bowl, and poured water into the pot.
The yolk made it richer and creamier, giving a flavor like a high-end Japanese rice bowl (donburi).

With the sweet-salty umami of the special sauce and every grain of rice distinct, I cleared it right to the end~~♡

Who is Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong good for?
- If you want a neatly laid-out meal and quality pot rice, I'd recommend Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong near Munjeong Station.
- You could feel the care put into every ingredient, and both the eel pot rice and the steak pot rice were very satisfying.
- With its clean interior and convenient parking, it's a Munjeong Station pot rice spot I'd recommend for dates, family meals, office lunches and solo dining.
Next time I plan to come back and try other dishes 😊
