Munjeong Japanese: extra-abalone pot rice & fillet katsu, Gome Mui
In short
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese restaurant serving pot rice (sotbap) and tonkatsu on the B1 floor of Terra Tower by Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. The writer visited around 2 PM, ordered the abalone pot rice with extra abalone and added a fillet katsu side, so the extra abalone came with every spoonful, and finished with nurungji (scorched rice). For pot rice and katsu in one filling meal, the extra-abalone combo at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a solid pick.

I visited Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong, a Munjeong Station favorite. This time I added extra abalone to my abalone pot rice, haha. The toppings on pot rice can feel a little skimpy sometimes, so this time I just added more abalone.

Pot rice alone felt like not enough, so I also ordered fillet katsu (pork tenderloin cutlet) as a side :) I loved getting a hearty pot rice and crispy tonkatsu together. For anyone looking for lunch at Terra Tower by Munjeong Station, here's my Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong story!

Wood-toned interior, busy even at 2 PM
The interior is wood-toned, with a clean, tidy feel that left an impression. It was packed with people stopping in for a quick pot rice. It was around 2 PM, a bit past the lunch rush, and it was still really popular!
What to order at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong

Gome Mui serves not just pot rice but also tonkatsu, udon and more. The pot rice choices range from abalone to steak to eel, so you can pick to your taste.
I went with the abalone pot rice! But plain abalone pot rice felt like not enough, so I ordered extra abalone, haha. And then the fillet katsu as a side, done!! When you want both pot rice and tonkatsu, adding on like this works well.
There's also a review event, so keep it in mind! You get a free drink!!
Is extra abalone on the abalone pot rice worth it?
With extra abalone added to Gome Mui's abalone pot rice, there was really a lot of abalone, so I could eat abalone in every spoonful. The abalone pot rice I'd been waiting for finally arrived! As the name says, it's rice cooked with abalone, the kind of dish you think of when you want a rich, nutty meal. I added extra abalone on top, haha. If you love abalone, adding more is a good choice.
How to eat Japanese pot rice, step by step
First mix the rice and toppings evenly, then scoop it into the separate bowl to eat. Pour hot water over the rice left in the pot, and at the end you can enjoy nurungji (scorched rice tea) too. Personally I love that pot rice lets you enjoy it all the way to the end, depending on the order you eat in :)

Since abalone pot rice is about eating abalone and rice together, adding plenty of abalone means you get abalone with each spoonful. With the extra abalone, there was seriously a lot!!
I also added the seasoning sauce bit by bit rather than all at once, adjusting the taste, and it was just right, haha. Though I tend to use a lot, so I poured it in generously, haha.

Eating it with gim (seaweed) and side dishes gives you more variety than a single flavor.

After I'd scooped out all the rice, they poured hot water into the pot to make nurungji. It's a pot rice you can enjoy to the very last bite, so it works when you want a filling meal.
Does fillet katsu go well with abalone pot rice?

Gome Mui's fillet katsu uses the tenderloin cut, so it's tender, and it was fun alternating it with the abalone pot rice. I tried the fillet katsu I ordered with the pot rice, and getting rice and tonkatsu together made the meal a bit more varied, haha. A spoonful of pot rice, then a piece of fillet katsu, was fun to alternate.

On days when pot rice alone isn't enough and you want tonkatsu too, using a side menu like this seems good. Especially if you visit in a group, adding sides to the mains and sharing a variety seems like a good idea.
Verdict: extra abalone and fillet katsu at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong

This time at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong I had abalone pot rice with extra abalone plus fillet katsu. I liked that you can have pot rice and tonkatsu together and build a more varied meal.

Above all, if you want a more generous helping of abalone with your abalone pot rice, ordering extra is an option, haha. If you're torn about lunch near Munjeong Station or looking for a good spot in Munjeong Terra Tower, check out Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong.

When you can't decide between pot rice and tonkatsu, being able to enjoy both was nice too :)
