Galbijeong: the Technopolis restaurant in Daegu where staff grill your ribs

Today I went to 'Galbijeong' for dinner near Technopolis in Hyeonpung. At Galbijeong the staff grill the meat for you, so it was a relaxed meal, and with wide tables, a playroom, and private rooms available, it looked like a good spot for family outings or group gatherings too.

Beyond the meat, there were all kinds of side dishes, a self-bar, and a full range of meal menu items, so I was really satisfied! Let me walk you through the vibe of the place, the menu lineup, and an honest taste review of everything we ate.

Inside Galbijeong: kids' playroom and VIP rooms

We came in during early evening so it wasn't too crowded, but by the time we left it had filled up quite a bit. Still, the restaurant itself is spacious so it didn't feel cramped.

The tables were also on the wider side, so there was plenty of room even with meat and side dishes laid out together, and we could order all the little side dishes down to the detail through the tablet. In particular, there's a kids' playroom set up on one side of the restaurant, which looked great for visiting with children. There are also several separate VIP rooms, which seem good for family gatherings or work dinners with a bigger group.

Near the entrance there's also a self-bar, with fresh vegetables like lettuce and perilla leaves for wraps, plus garlic, chili peppers, potatoes, and more.

Side dishes, sauces and the self-bar at Galbijeong

After ordering, a bunch of side dishes arrived — seasoned marinated crab, white kimchi, a yukjeon-style pan-fried side, green onion kimchi — along with soy sauce, wasabi, and garlic sesame oil to eat with the meat.

How do the staff-grilled charcoal ribs taste?

The meat arrives-!

One of the best things about Galbijeong was that staff grill the meat for you. The charcoal fire runs pretty hot, so it can be tricky to time it right if you grill it yourself, but the staff flipped and grilled the meat perfectly for us, so it was an easy, relaxed meal.

The meat was cut nice and thick, and it wasn't tough — soft and easy to eat. (Pop a whole piece in your mouth and chew — so satisfying!) There was a subtle charcoal smokiness too, which went well with wraps or green onion salad. They also grill mushrooms, potatoes, and garlic alongside.

We got the grilled cheese for free through a Naver review event, and lightly grilled on the pan and eaten with the meat, it was savory and paired really well. Recommended if you're visiting with kids!!😀

Finishing with doenjang jjigae and yukhoe bibimbap

To finish, doenjang jjigae and yukhoe bibimbap! You can choose spicy or mild for the doenjang jjigae — I went with spicy. It was on the fiery side, which went great with rice and meat, but if you're not great with spicy food, I'd recommend going mild!

The yukhoe bibimbap was packed with raw beef, cabbage, sprouts, and various other vegetables. The vegetables were fresh and the raw beef was wonderfully chewy — so good! Highly recommend the yukhoe bibimbap!

Is Galbijeong worth it? The verdict

Overall, this is a place with a spacious layout and roomy tables, making for a comfortable meal. In particular, having staff grill the meat for you plus the playroom and private rooms made it a good pick for a family meal out or a group gathering.

If you're looking for a staff-grilled Korean BBQ place near Hyeonpung and Technopolis, or somewhere to bring the kids, this one's worth a visit.
