Hyeonpung, Daegu Korean BBQ: staff-grilled pork belly at Galbijeong

Starting my honest review of Galbijeong, where we had dinner with the kids during our Daegu trip~!^^

Galbijeong🧡 — the place we visited because we wanted good meat with the kids during our Daegu trip. When eating out with kids, taste matters, but so does whether there's a playroom and whether you have to grill the meat yourself😊 This turned out to be a Hyeonpung, Daegu restaurant that was pretty convenient on both fronts, so I wanted to introduce it as a family dining spot :)

Galbijeong is the spot we found for dinner with the kids during our Daegu trip🤗 The classic BBQ-restaurant atmosphere hit right from the entrance, and inside, the place was bigger than I expected. Along with the regular tables, there were also more private seating areas, so it seemed like a good fit for families as well as larger groups! Every table had its own ventilation to clear the smoke right away, and the overall layout felt spacious :)

The playroom at Galbijeong: where the kids can play while you eat

Galbijeong is a BBQ restaurant with a playroom separate from the dining area💛 With a colorful jungle gym and a slide, there was no way Jeonghyeok and Ribin were walking past that one :) Kids tend to get bored pretty quickly once they're full, rather than lingering over the meat, so being able to send them off to the playroom before or after the meal made things much easier for us as parents!

So among Hyeonpung, Daegu restaurants, if you're planning a family meal out with kids and looking for one with a playroom, this one is worth keeping in mind💕

Staff grill it for you: two servings of Galbijeong fresh pork belly

At Galbijeong, staff grill the pork belly, galbi and other meats for you, and that made a real difference! Our family ordered two servings of Galbijeong's fresh pork belly that day :) When you go to a BBQ place with two kids, it's usually one parent grilling and the other wrangling the kids, making it hard for either to actually eat properly~~

With the staff grilling the thick cuts of fresh pork belly on the grill just right, we could focus on eating while still looking after the kids🧡 Just not having to grill the meat ourselves made the whole experience of eating out with two kids so much easier! Especially on a trip, when parents are already worn out from being on the move all day, not having to do the grilling too was a real relief.

The well-cooked pork belly had a golden, crisp outside with a juicy inside, and it paired nicely with the garlic sauce and scallion salad that came alongside💛 The banchan (side dishes) were also well suited to eating with meat, so we had a generously filled table. If you prefer BBQ restaurants where the staff grills for you, Galbijeong's strengths will really stand out :)

What our family ordered that day was two servings of Galbijeong's fresh pork belly, Galbijeong's water naengmyeon, kids' doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, and yukjeon :) Rather than just meat, we ordered a variety of dishes we could share with the kids!

After the meat, of course, the cool water naengmyeon! Slurping the noodles with the broth felt like it cleaned the palate nicely after the pork belly, and it also went well eaten together with the grilled meat!

Having a separate kids' doenjang jjigae was also a welcome touch for us as parents with kids. Adult-style jjigae can be too salty or spicy for kids to eat together, but having a kids' menu made picking dishes much easier :) The fluffy steamed egg was also a great side to share with the kids. It had a soft texture that went well between bites of meat, and eating it warm was quite filling!

And adding the yukjeon we also ordered rounded out a pretty generous meal — from meat to a main dish to sides😊 Being able to share several different dishes with the kids was also nice~!

There was a self-service corner on one side of the restaurant where we could easily grab side dishes or vegetables as needed🤗 Since our family often eats a lot of wrap vegetables and extras at BBQ places, this self-service bar was handy :) There was also a spot with a coffee machine and drinks/tea, and each table had an ordering tablet, which made adding extra menu items convenient~!

Above all, the combination of a playroom and staff-grilled meat was the biggest advantage for us visiting with two kids💛 Parents could eat a bit more at ease, and the kids could spend time in the playroom after the meal, so the whole family left satisfied~!

Is Galbijeong a good family dinner out with two kids?

Galbijeong, which we visited on this Daegu trip, checked pretty much every box for taking kids out for meat🧡 When eating out with kids, what matters most is a space where they won't get bored and an environment where parents can eat comfortably. Since it's a restaurant with a playroom, the kids could play, and since it's a BBQ place where staff grill the pork belly and galbi, we parents could also eat relatively comfortably while looking after the kids :)

On top of the fresh pork belly, there were plenty of menu options the whole family could enjoy together, like water naengmyeon, kids' doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, and yukjeon, plus being able to order extra side dishes and kids' seaweed easily via tablet, and the free yogurt for kids was a nice touch too💛
