I was trying to decide where to go for lunch and ended up at Jeongwon Galbi Gwangju Branch because I really wanted to eat proper meat.
I visited during lunchtime, and the clean, comfortable atmosphere felt like a great fit for family meals or gatherings too. The tables weren't cramped, and sunlight coming in through the window made for a relaxed lunch.
What is the lunch menu at Jeongwon Galbi in Gwangju?
I ordered the Jeongwon Seasoned BBQ Table, ₩15,900 × 3 servings.

It's a set that comes with 270g of Jeongwon seasoned BBQ plus either cold noodles or rice, and doenjang jjigae.

It's a lunch special available for two or more people before 3pm on weekdays, so if you visit at lunchtime it's a really solid deal. With three servings ordered, the table was seriously loaded.

Along with the meat, there were all sorts of side dishes — salad, kimchi, pickles, lettuce wraps — and just looking at them got my appetite going.
How the sweet-salty Jeongwon seasoned BBQ tastes
They put the seasoned meat on the grill and cooked it for us, and the sizzling sound alone made me hungry.
The seasoning was soaked evenly into the meat, giving off a subtly sweet aroma as it grilled, and the meat turned golden brown and glossy.

Taking a bite, the sweet-salty seasoning blended really well with the meat — great with rice, and just as good wrapped in lettuce.

Instead of grilling it too dry, keeping it moderately cooked kept the texture moist and made it even tastier.

Putting a piece of meat on lettuce with garlic, ssamjang (dipping sauce), and side dishes for one big wrap — meat really is best in a wrap! 😋
The sweetness of the seasoned meat combined with the crisp, fresh vegetables cleaned up my palate each time, so I kept reaching for more.
Side dishes and the self-serve wrap vegetable bar
Side dishes matter a lot at a BBQ restaurant, and the ones on the table that day were varied and paired well with the meat one by one.

The perilla leaf pickles and other pickled sides in particular went well with the seasoned meat's flavor, and there was plenty of lettuce so I could wrap things up to my taste.
Eating only meat can get a bit heavy, but mixing in crisp vegetables and tangy side dishes now and then kept my palate refreshed.
The self-serve bar had lettuce and various accompanying ingredients ready to go, so it was convenient to grab as much as I needed.
Hot doenjang jjigae with the lunch set
Doenjang jjigae, essential to any meat table, came along too. It arrived bubbling in a stone pot, so it stayed warm on the table.

A spoonful of savory doenjang jjigae, a piece of meat, and some rice together made for a truly filling lunch combination.
Sipping the stew broth between bites of meat felt like it reset my palate from the rich flavor of the seasoned meat each time.
Cold noodles to finish the meal
We chose cold noodles for dessert. After eating a fair amount of meat, you naturally start craving something cool and tangy.

After enjoying the seasoned meat, the cold noodles cleaned up my palate and let me finish the meal on a good note all the way to the end.

Pairing a bite of seasoned meat with a little cold noodle also worked really well together.
Inside Jeongwon Galbi: a clean, easy dining room
The interior overall felt clean yet warm. Wood-toned tables and chairs matched nicely, and by the window, large windows let in the outside scenery, keeping things comfortable rather than cramped.

Each table also had a neatly set-up grill, and seating was fairly spacious, so it seemed like a good spot not just for lunch but for family meals or gatherings too.
Rather than the usual bustling BBQ restaurant vibe, the overall feel was tidy and orderly, making it comfortable for a relaxed lunch.
Is the 15,900-won lunch set worth it?

Visiting Jeongwon Galbi Gwangju Branch for lunch was a satisfying meal, being able to enjoy meat and a full meal set at once.
In particular, the Jeongwon Seasoned BBQ Table, available for two or more before 3pm on weekdays, felt like a solid lunch option with its 270g of seasoned BBQ plus doenjang jjigae and either cold noodles or rice.

Grilling the sweet-salty seasoned meat until golden, wrapping it with lettuce and various side dishes, and finishing with warm doenjang jjigae and cool noodles made for a truly filling lunch.
Best of all, it wasn't just eating meat — being able to add side dishes and lettuce to my own taste meant I never got tired of it through the whole meal.
This is the kind of place that comes to mind when you want to enjoy a hearty but affordable meat meal with family or friends at lunchtime.
I visited for lunch this time, but next time I'd love to come back for a relaxed dinner and try some of the other meat menu items at Jeongwon Galbi Gwangju Branch. 🥩
