Dinner for two with jjolmyeon noodles added: Dakgalbijeon Gangnam

These days the mornings and evenings have gotten a lot cooler, which makes it so much nicer to be out and about. I happened to have plans in Seoul, so I figured it was the perfect chance to grab dinner with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. We ended up at a restaurant known as a great meeting spot between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations — one where you can enjoy dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) and jeon (Korean pancakes) together :)

This time I visited Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch, which is close to Sinnonhyeon Station.

With such long hours, it works for everything from a weekday office lunch to an evening get-together, and since you can park in the Gangnam Diobil basement lot, it's also convenient if you're driving! When picking a restaurant in Gangnam, accessibility and parking are usually the two things I check first, so I liked that this place had both covered.

Atmosphere and seating — good for group dinners?

Walking inside, the space was bigger and roomier than I expected, so I'd definitely recommend it as a group spot! It's mostly table seating, with some tables big enough for several people, which makes it a good fit whether you're meeting up with friends or having a work dinner with coworkers.

Overall it has a relaxed, casual vibe that made it easy to sit and chat without any pressure, and there's also a self bar where you can grab extra basic side dishes. Since you can order dakgalbi along with the pancakes as a set and share everything, there's plenty of menu variety if you're coming with a bigger group :)

Dakgalbijeon has a wide range of options, from plain dakgalbi to cheese dakgalbi to sets that come with pancakes. Here's a rundown of the signature menu:

My friend and I ordered the Gamssachidak set for two and added jjolmyeon noodles. Gamssachidak comes with cheese dakgalbi and a potato pancake, so it felt more special and filling than just dakgalbi on its own :)

Tasting the Gamssachidak set for two + added jjolmyeon

After ordering, it wasn't long before the dakgalbi and potato pancake arrived together, and it was a generous spread for two people. The potato pancake in particular came out big and thick enough to actually wrap the dakgalbi in — which made it instantly clear why the dish is called Gamssachidak (literally 'wrapped chicken').

We started with the cheese dakgalbi, and the cheese mellowed out the spicy sauce beautifully — it was genuinely delicious!

The chicken was cut into just the right bite-sized pieces, so easy to pop in one after another :) And no gamey smell at all — it was really fresh!

The potato pancake was crispy on the outside while the inside still had that clean, mild potato flavor, and paired with the richly seasoned dakgalbi it was an amazing combo🫶🏼

Eating the dakgalbi plain versus wrapped in the potato pancake is a totally different experience! I'd really recommend ordering the set menu just for this 😘

We also added jjolmyeon noodles on top, and as expected, the chewy noodles went great with the spicy dakgalbi sauce. The sauce soaked into the springy noodles nicely, and eating them with the dakgalbi made for a really hearty meal — adding just one noodle serving between the two of us left us completely stuffed!

By the time we finished the dakgalbi, potato pancake, and noodles, we were full enough that we didn't even need to order a side dish! Normally, ordering fried rice afterward is the classic move at this Sinnonhyeon dakgalbi spot, but unfortunately we were too full to manage it this time — next visit, I'm definitely getting the fried rice too.

Final thoughts

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is easy to reach from Sinnonhyeon Station and the portions are generous, making it a solid choice when you're looking for a spot for a friend hangout or a work dinner. The Gamssachidak set especially lets you enjoy cheese dakgalbi and potato pancake together, giving it a different feel from your average dakgalbi meal :)

By the time we finished eating and were heading out, it had turned into the Gangnam evening rush hour, and the place had filled up almost completely with customers.
