Rainy-night black rice gimbap takeout near Gyodae: Halls Gimbap

Today I went to grab takeout gimbap at Halls Gimbap near Gyodae! It was raining pretty hard that day, but delivery orders kept coming in the whole time I was there haha. I could really feel why this is known as a top gimbap spot near Gyodae. Even on a rainy day the orders kept piling up — I wondered if this place is just always this popular, and once I tasted it, I got it haha. Seriously delicious gimbap near Gyodae!!

A gimbap restaurant close to Gyodae Station, and the vibe inside

Halls Gimbap, famous near Gyodae! It was nice that it's pretty close to Gyodae Station too. Even on a rainy day the orders were insane. Delivery riders were constantly coming and going haha.

It used to be known as a brand famous for its chicken-and-gimbap combo, then went through some personal issues and kept going under just the name Halls Gimbap — a real, longstanding gimbap spot near Gyodae!

Here's the menu board at Halls Gimbap Main Branch, a well-known gimbap spot near Gyodae. It'll probably get busy with office workers from Gyodae during lunch. Takeout is available, and you can even get half-and-half gimbap in the chicken combos, so if you want to try a bunch of flavors, you'll love that option haha.

If you eat inside, you can also get soup and there are cup noodles too, so it seems like a good spot for a full meal on-site. I went in the evening and got takeout, and it was still delicious even after getting home.

There are even wet wipes and hair ties at the store, so it seems like a thoughtful place. Also, the owner and kitchen staff are all the same people as before, so apparently the taste of the gimbap and fried chicken hasn't changed at all!

Eating in seems nice too?! There are also a lot of solo-dining seats inside, so if you're looking for a good place to eat alone near Gyodae, this is it.

There's the basic Halls Gimbap for ₩6,000, Wasabi Gimbap for ₩6,000, Spam Gimbap for ₩6,000, Double Cheese Egg Gimbap for ₩7,000, Konjac Minari Gimbap for ₩6,500, Jindo Green Onion Tuna Gimbap for ₩7,000, and more. You can order gimbap on its own, but there are also separate set menus where you can eat it together with fried chicken!

Since we wanted to try a bunch of things, we took out the Halls + Spam Chicken Set, Jindo Green Onion Tuna Gimbap, and Double Cheese Egg Gimbap! We wanted to try every kind of gimbap, so we ordered as wide a variety as possible. The filling here is genuinely packed, and the rice isn't regular white rice but black rice, so it somehow feels like a slightly healthier way to eat. I deliberately bought a lot so my family could try it too haha.

Seeing people come in for takeout and deliveries constantly going out, it seemed like this place is already quite popular in the neighborhood. I thought, how different can gimbap really be — but after eating it I understood why the orders are so heavy. And the fried chicken was seriously delicious ㅠ Definitely a real Gyodae favorite I'll be revisiting!!

When I opened up the takeout, wow — the portions were bigger than expected, and the colors were so vibrant it looked super appetizing haha. I had other plans and couldn't get home right away, so I ate the fried chicken after it had gone cold, and it was shockingly still delicious. Halls Gimbap is a great gimbap spot near Gyodae for solo dining ㅠ

Each gimbap had different fillings, so laying out several kinds together made for a really nice visual. And Halls Gimbap's signature feature is that it's made with black rice instead of regular white rice! With gimbap, the rice-to-filling ratio can sometimes make it feel heavy after eating, but here the black rice comes with tons of vegetables too, so it felt somehow healthier than regular gimbap.

But the important thing is it's not just pretending to be healthy while tasting bland — it was genuinely delicious haha. I get why it's famous as a top gimbap spot near Gyodae and why there were so many delivery riders.

Jindo Green Onion Tuna Gimbap ₩7,000

And I separately ordered one roll of Jindo Green Onion Tuna Gimbap for ₩7,000. This one's cross-section was also insane. Regular tuna gimbap is often drowning in mayo, right? Apparently Halls Gimbap cuts down on the mayo compared to typical tuna gimbap and packs in more tuna instead! So the cross-section shows the center completely full of tuna haha.

Double Cheese Egg Gimbap ₩7,000

Just from the photo you can tell egg is really the main character here, right??

The thick layer of egg omelet in the center of the roll looked so appetizing. True to its name, it has both egg and cheese, giving the whole thing a nutty, soft feel! While the other rolls have a clearer texture from vegetables, tuna, or Spam, this one is softer and easier to eat, making it the perfect one to mix in when ordering several kinds together.

The fried chicken in the set

And the fried chicken that comes with the set! The gimbap alone is already tasty, but grabbing a piece of chicken in between bites made for a surprisingly great combo haha. The seasoning was properly coated and appetizing, and there was even cheongyang chili pepper (Korean hot green chili) on top.

For the chicken set, I ordered the version where you can try both Halls Gimbap and Spam Gimbap! The Spam Gimbap was really soft and delicious, but considering eating it alongside the chicken, I'd recommend the Halls Gimbap more!!

Gimbap → chicken → gimbap again — eating it this way, it just kept going in haha. If you feel like one roll of gimbap alone isn't quite enough, ordering a set that includes chicken like I did seems like a good idea! And the fried chicken is genuinely delicious. Even eaten cold, it was super crispy — wow, I really want to eat it again.

Spam Gimbap

This is gimbap with thick original Spam and plump egg inside. The Spam isn't just a token amount — it clearly shows up in the cross-section too haha. Salty Spam plus soft egg — there's no way that combo isn't delicious. There were also lots of vegetables mixed in, so the Spam flavor wasn't overpowering, and the overall balance was solid.

Basic Halls Gimbap

Apparently this gimbap has fish cake braised in Halls' own special sauce, along with vegetables, carrot, cucumber, pickled radish, and egg omelet. Right from the cross-section, the fillings clearly stand out more than the rice, don't they?! The vegetables were packed in tightly, and with the thick egg too, the texture on the first bite was really great.

What I liked even more thanks to the black rice

One thing I personally really liked about Halls Gimbap was the black rice! These days some gimbap places pile on tons of rice with barely any filling, but as you can tell just from the photos, here the black rice is wrapped thin while the inside is packed full of fillings. There's a good variety of vegetables too, so the colorful cross-section looks really pretty haha. Maybe because it's made with black rice, it somehow feels a bit healthier than regular gimbap haha — but that doesn't mean it's bland in a health-food way either; each gimbap has a distinct flavor, so it felt like I got both the healthy feeling and the deliciousness. This kind of gimbap is so good.

Halls Gimbap, where delivery orders kept coming in even on a rainy day, making me think it must be really popular! After trying it myself, I get why some people order from here often. It uses black rice, and the fillings are much more generous than the rice, so it felt more filling than regular gimbap, and above all, it was genuinely delicious haha.

From the basic Halls Gimbap to Spam Gimbap, Jindo Green Onion Tuna Gimbap, and Double Cheese Egg Gimbap, each type had a different flavor, so it was fun taking out several rolls and sharing them! Eating the fried chicken alongside made it much more filling than gimbap alone haha. If you're looking for a great gimbap spot near Gyodae, or a simple but satisfying meal in the area, give Halls Gimbap a try. I'd definitely get takeout from here again — the fillings were so generous that I really liked it haha.
