The place I picked for my wedding invitation meetup (the Korean custom of handing out invitations over a meal with friends) in Seongsu is Thanon55, a Thai restaurant near Seongsu Station. I was looking for somewhere that isn't noisy, has no wait, and has a menu that few people dislike, and that's how I found it.

I'm a bride-to-be just starting these meetups :) Going back and forth between Daegu and Seoul is really not easy, hohoho. On top of that, my company's business got wound down and I ended up taking voluntary redundancy, hahahaha. But hey, now I have more time, so good! This meetup was going to be in Seongsu, so I searched hard for a restaurant. Too-loud places make it hard to talk, hot spots waste your time in queues, it's too hot outside, and I wanted a menu nobody would hate... and then I found Thanon55, a Seongsu rice noodle favorite! Thai food rarely divides people, and with soups, rice dishes, stir-fried noodles and more, I think that's why so many people pick it for these meetups.

Thanon55 is at 16 Ttukseom-ro 9-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, about an 8–9 minute walk from Seongsu Station. It's open 11:30–22:00 (closed Sundays), with a weekday break time of 15:00–17:00.

Is Thanon55 quiet enough for conversation?

The interior has a slight local-Thailand feel, and it wasn't too loud, so it was great for a sit-down chat like a wedding invitation meetup. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was traveling 👏🏻

Lots of people seemed to come for these meetups, dates or lunch plans.

Thanon55 menu prices and what we ordered

Thanon55 isn't just rice noodles. There's pad thai, khao pad (fried rice), curry, tom yum goong and more, a really wide range,, 🙊 so with a group it's easy to order what you like and share. If you have trouble deciding, just order the recommended items and you can't go wrong!!!

• Shrimp pad thai ₩13,000
• Spring rolls (6 pcs) ₩7,000

We were chatting about this and that, and the food came out pretty quickly.

What does Thanon55's goong pad pong curry taste like?

Thanon55's No. 1 item, the goong pad pong curry (₩14,000), looks like steamed egg and tastes sweet with a curry flavor. It's their signature, so I was curious and ordered it, and it was so good.

Fluffy, steamed-egg style. Sweet but with curry flavor too, a taste I'd never had before, and the kind of thing anyone, young or old, would like.

Mixed with rice, the curry is insanely good. I dipped the meat in the chili sauce (?) and the combination was just right!

Thanon55 spring rolls: the dish that fell short

Thanon55's spring rolls (6 pcs, ₩7,000) weren't really to my taste. I ordered them because I thought mains alone might feel lacking, but... they weren't quite my style, sadly ㅠㅠ

Are Thanon55's gamjatang rice noodles very spicy?

Thanon55's gamjatang rice noodles (₩13,000) (gamjatang is a spicy pork-bone stew) is a strong recommendation if you want spicy, hearty rice noodles. It's hot enough that spice-averse people will find it very spicy, but it's the kind of heat that keeps you reaching for more.

Strong spices can divide people, but Thanon55's aren't overwhelming, so even people trying Thai food for the first time should be fine!!!

Thanon55 shrimp pad thai: the best pad thai I've had

Thanon55's shrimp pad thai (₩13,000) is mainly bean sprouts, noodles and shrimp, and it was the best pad thai I've ever had. Also insanely good!

It had a slight spiciness that balanced the sweetness, so I never got tired of it and kept enjoying it.

Is Thanon55 also good for a date in Seongsu?

Thanon55 had lots of couples and groups of friends, so I recommend it as a Seongsu date spot too. You get that Seongsu vibe and the food is clean and neat, so it was a good place for a date. Officially a Seongsu rice noodle favorite!
