I had a class to attend in Seongsu, so I ended up visiting after a long while,,! Seongsu really is the holy land of hip places, right,, ⸝⸝ʚ̴̶̷̆ˬʚ̴̶̷̆⸝⸝❤︎ While searching for the hottest of the hot spots with my classmate Yoreu, we finally! visited Seongsu Darak, which has been blowing up lately with foreign visitors giving it their pick 😍

I'd wanted to go for a while because of how famous it is for its omurice visuals, but I'd only bookmarked it since it's notorious for brutal weekend waits,,, Since it was a weekday, I sprinted right over!! Yay

Where is Seongsu Darak? Hours and a 7–10 minute walk from Seongsu Station

A converted house entrance: through the loft door up to the 2nd floor

Seongsu Darak is about a 10-minute walk from Seongsu Station. It's set in a converted regular house, and the entrance door is really unusual haha

How long is the weekday noon wait at Seongsu Darak? About 15 minutes

Open this quirky loft door and head up to the 2nd floor, and there's Seongsu Darak! I visited around noon on a weekday. I figured the wait wouldn't be long since it was a weekday, but there were already people waiting ahead of me, and I got in after about 15 minutes!

15 minutes isn't bad for a Seongsu hotspot, I thought, but by the time I finished eating and came out, the line had gotten even longer. If you're visiting with 3 or more people, Naver reservations are available, so I recommend booking! And if you're going, maybe brace yourself a little,, an opening-time rush is also worth considering ㅎㅅㅎ

Why so many foreign diners come to Seongsu Darak

One thing that surprised me a bit once I got inside was how many foreign customers there were! Seongsu itself has a lot of foreign tourists these days, but at Seongsu Darak I kept seeing foreign customers throughout the meal (Japanese visitors especially), which was so surprising,,!

What the 2nd and 3rd floor seats at Seongsu Darak are like

The restaurant uses both the 2nd and 3rd floors, and we were seated on the 2nd floor. From where I sat on the 2nd floor, there weren't as many tables as I expected. The 3rd floor looked a bit more spacious than the 2nd, but since so many people come here, I'd recommend keeping that in mind when you go.

The food arrives: is Seongsu Darak really that good for brunch?

The food finally came out!! Seeing in person what I'd only seen on Instagram ㅠㅠ Isn't it the perfect Seongsu brunch menu? A perfect Western-style spread (the table next to us was having pasta,, and it looked super tasty too🤤)

🍳 Darak omurice: the staff cut the omelet open at your table

When the food comes out, it's exactly the round, plump omelet look you'd imagine! But here's where it actually gets fun. A staff member cuts the egg open with a knife right in front of you. Seeing that scene I'd only ever watched on YouTube or Reels — the omelet splitting open to reveal that soft, fluffy cross-section — in real life was so much fun😆

The taste is exactly what you'd picture as good omurice. The soft egg, rice, and sauce combo makes it easy to like across the board. I'd assumed it was famous purely for the visuals, but the taste was above average too — satisfying!

Also the portion is huge,, one bite and you're in heaven ദ്ദി*꒦ິ⌓꒦ີ)

🦀 Spicy crab risotto: rich crab aroma, but how spicy is it?

And the one I personally enjoyed the most — spicy crab risotto! You could smell the crab aroma the moment it arrived. A hint of ocean scent really hits your nose! One bite in, the sauce and rice aren't light at all — the whole thing is heavy and rich, and I loved that.🦀

You really taste the crab, and the creamy, heavy sauce soaks well into the rice, so you keep reaching for more. But since it's called [spicy crab risotto], I did expect some spiciness too... and for my palate, I barely felt any heat!

Still, the sauce is just balanced enough that you never get sick of it, and it's genuinely delicious — you get why it's a signature dish, so definitely order it👍💕

🍟 The surprise favorite: cream onion fries at Seongsu Darak

And the surprise hit of the day!!! These cream onion fries are actually good. Really good. Popping in a fry between bites of omurice and risotto, that salty + savory + creamy combo just keeps pulling you back in.

Ah... this is a beer-pairing kind of taste 🍺

If we'd only ordered the two mains, I think it might have gotten a bit much halfway through, but popping in a fry between bites changed up the texture, and the saltiness was so good. Personally, I'd recommend ordering this as a side if you go to Seongsu Darak!

Seongsu Darak verdict: a brunch spot for dates and small gatherings

Since it's such a famous spot in Seongsu, I honestly worried it might be all visuals and no substance, but the food itself was actually delicious, which was satisfying. The staff were kind too, the omurice-cutting was fun to watch, and the combination of the three dishes was great. The vibe of the place was really nice too, so I'd recommend it as a Seongsu brunch spot for a date or a group gathering in Seongsu!
