Sindang Station Korean BBQ: owner-picked hanwoo galbi-sal, Beefjeong

Beefjeong Gogi Jip (비프정) is a Korean BBQ restaurant right in front of Exit 8 of Sindang Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. The blogger ordered ribeye, but the Beefjeong owner wasn't happy with that day's ribeye and instead recommended the limited-menu hanwoo galbi-sal (beef rib finger meat), a good batch from Majang-dong, grilled piece by piece with Gangwon-do doenjang ssamjang and the owner's homemade jangajji (soy-pickled vegetables). An owner who serves only the day's best meat makes Beefjeong a Sindang Station BBQ spot worth revisiting.

Ikseon-dong bakery weekend wait: condensed milk garlic bread, Munhwa

Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a takeout-only bakery on Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul, between Jongno 3-ga Station and Ikseon-dong. On a weekend visit the writer waited in a long line, went in when it was their turn (two parties at a time) and bought garlic bread and coffee bread. Munhwa Bakery cut the breads into easy-to-eat pieces and wrapped each one individually. The garlic bread was full of condensed milk, butter and garlic flavor, and the coffee bread was soft thanks to its castella (sponge cake) crumbs. If you love garlic bread, Munhwa Bakery is worth the weekend wait, as long as you allow plenty of time.

Seongbok Stream noodle & katsu restaurant: croquette-like potato jeon

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch is a Japanese-style noodle and pork cutlet (tonkatsu) restaurant on the ground floor of a building along Seongbok Stream, near Seongbok Station in Suji, Yongin. The writer ordered the chewy potato jeon (pancake), a maze udon set and a perilla oil soba set, and especially liked the croquette-like potato jeon, the crispy pork cutlet and the colorful maze udon. With free underground parking, roomy seating and kids' tableware at the self-serve bar, Chilseong Jemyeonso is a good stop near Seongbok Station when you want noodles and katsu in one meal.

Myeonsikdang Suji Government Office branch (면식당 수지구청점) is a Japanese restaurant serving ramen, soba and katsu right outside Exit 2 of Sujigucheong Station in Suji-gu, Yongin. After checking out the solo seats with chargers, the writer ordered perilla oil soba with 3 extra slices of chashu, mozzarella cheese katsu and a half portion of demi-glace hire (pork fillet) katsu, and was pleased with the crispy, cheese-packed katsu and the nutty perilla oil soba. For a solo meal or a light bite near Sujigucheong Station, Myeonsikdang Suji Government Office branch is a good fit.

Cheonan burger to go: avocado vs cream cheese chicken, Downtown Burger

Downtown Burger Shinsegae Department Store Cheonan-Asan is a handmade burger shop on the 4th floor of Building B at Shinsegae Department Store in Sinbu-dong, Cheonan. The writer visited at 4 PM and took home three burgers: the Avocado Burger, the Cream Cheese Chicken Burger and the Bulgogi Smash. The Avocado and Cream Cheese Chicken burgers were so good it was hard to pick just one. Downtown Burger is an easy pick for a quick meal at Shinsegae Department Store in Cheonan.

The writer and a friend ordered the crème brûlée soufflé, the new Dubai croffle (croissant waffle) and a peach iced tea, and loved both the melt-in-your-mouth soufflé and the croffle's chocolate-pistachio spread with crunchy kadayif (shredded pastry). If you like soufflé pancakes, the crème brûlée soufflé and Dubai croffle at Andamiro Pancake Cheonan are worth ordering together.

Gogi-ri shabu-kalguksu: 5-min lunch wait, egg fried rice, Yun Ujae

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Gogi-ri, Suji-gu, Yongin. The restaurant was almost full at weekend lunch, but after registering on Catch Table the writer waited in the customer waiting room for under 5 minutes. The order was the white broth at medium spice with an extra 140g of sirloin and an egg, eaten as a course from shabu-shabu to flat kalguksu noodles and crispy fried rice. With a clear seafood broth that is gentle on the stomach, Yun Ujae is a Suji restaurant well suited to family meals with parents.
