Samseong Station bossam spot: fiery naengmyeon first, Yangeunine
In short
Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch (양은이네 삼성역점) is a Korean restaurant on Teheran-ro 83-gil in Gangnam, Seoul, serving squid bossam, pollack stew and naengmyeon (cold noodles). On a weeknight dinner date with a partner whose workplace had temporarily moved to Samseong-dong, the writer ordered the ₩48,000 Yangeunine set with clear (jiri) pollack stew and fiery bul naengmyeon, and asked for the naengmyeon to come out with everything else from the start. The two of them finished the Yangeunine set but were extremely full; with drinks, it is enough for 3 to 4 people.

Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch menu and prices

Why Yangeunine for a big, tasty dinner date in Samseong-dong?
I picked Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch because it's a place near Samseong Station and Samseongjungang Station where you can get generous portions of bossam (boiled pork wraps) and pollack stew. My boyfriend's workplace temporarily moved to Samseong-dong, so before the real project kicked off, we could squeeze in a short dinner date. I'd been hungry all day, so it had to be something tasty AND big! And somewhere near Samseong Station or Samseongjungang Station so getting home would be easy. Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch ticked every box 🙌

Is rice free at Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch at lunch?
The lunch menu here is great too, with cockle bibimbap, a bossam set meal, pollack stew and more, and at lunch only, the rice is free. Such a generous place 🙌

Maybe they worry people won't be able to eat much rice? There were unlimited-rice notices all over the walls. Some places charge ₩1,500 for a bowl of rice these days, and here they keep refilling it... such generosity 🙌

The ₩48,000 Yangeunine set and how to get your naengmyeon first
The Yangeunine set gets you squid, boiled pork (suyuk), naengmyeon (cold noodles) and pollack stew all at once for ₩48,000. I'd decided on it before we even came! You can choose spicy or clear (jiri) pollack stew, and for the naengmyeon, water naengmyeon, spicy mixed naengmyeon or fiery naengmyeon (bul naengmyeon).
And here's the thoughtful part! So that you can enjoy them at their best, the naengmyeon normally comes after the meal is well underway, but if you tell them in advance, as I did, for people who want everything at once, they'll bring the naengmyeon out together 🩷

Yangeunine has had tons of celebrity visits and TV coverage 🙌 The shop TV was playing broadcasts too, and the food looked so good that I got excited 👍

Side dishes and self-serve bar at Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch
At the table, ssamjang (dipping paste), salted shrimp, garlic, Cheongyang chili peppers, bean sprouts, kimchi filling and pickled chili peppers are set out first. I sneaked a bite of the bean sprouts and they were good.

The self-serve bar had everything from small plates to a variety of side dishes. Lettuce piled high 🩷 I liked that it was stocked with fresh garlic, chili peppers, salted shrimp, ssamjang, sesame-rich seasoned bean sprouts, pickled chili peppers, napa cabbage kimchi and kimchi filling, all in generous amounts.
What does the Yangeunine set look like on the table?
The happiness of forty-eight thousand won: the Yangeunine set comes with spicy seasoned squid, boiled pork, salted cabbage, fresh cabbage, assorted seasonings, radish kimchi, fresh kimchi (geotjeori) and lettuce 🤤

Then the pollack stew, which I chose clear (jiri). Several big pieces of pollack, packed with roe and milt, plus plenty of tofu and water dropwort (minari) on top.
Last, the fiery naengmyeon (bul naengmyeon) 🔥 that I'd asked them to bring out quickly. The looks and the portions were so huge that I wondered, can two people really finish all this..? We came for dinner, but I think with drinks it would be plenty for 3 to 4 people 🙌

Yangeunine squid bossam: how do the squid and boiled pork taste?
The squid in the Yangeunine set was cooked tender yet chewy. First up, the bossam and squid! I put the red, spicy seasoning I'd been looking forward to on top of the squid, and it was so good. I'd been so hungry I felt queasy, and this settled my stomach right down. I got more and more curious about the other dishes.

Next, picking up a piece of suyuk. A decent thickness, and I dipped it in the salted shrimp first. After just these two, I knew we had to come back! A makgeolli (rice wine) party is a must, so we basically booked ourselves in as regulars.
One bite with lots of ingredients piled on cabbage, another bite on lettuce.

It tastes good and there's plenty of it, so we kept eating it in all sorts of ways 🐷
Yangeunine clear (jiri) pollack stew: how is the broth?
The clear pollack stew at Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch comes in a brimming yangeun (aluminum) pot, and the broth was rich and deep. One big piece of pollack, with plenty of roe and milt too.
The staff filled my bowl with tofu, sea squirts (omandungi) and broth. I started with the water dropwort dipped in the seasoning sauce, and the aroma alone was so good. Then I tasted the broth, and it was so good I thought, I'd start with makgeolli, but I'd want soju too..?
Packed with roe and milt, and delicious..! You can also order extras for the stew. Choosing clear was absolutely the right call. I'm curious about the spicy version too, but the broth here was really rich and deep.
Yangeunine fiery bul naengmyeon: how spicy is it?
The fiery naengmyeon at Yangeunine isn't extremely spicy; the charm is the heat that builds up afterward. A bowl full of noodles and such delicious-looking red sauce, I sprinkled in a little mustard and vinegar and mixed it up with gusto. Sliced Cheongyang peppers on top look spicy but also so tasty.. I was drooling..🤤..

I rolled up a big bite, and it wasn't super spicy, but the heat that comes in afterward was lovely. The noodles were cooked just right, there was lots of it, plenty of naengmyeon radish, and egg strips made it feel even more generous. Rolling boiled pork up in the noodles! The two of us usually eat a lot and we finished everything, but we were really, really full!

Amenities and sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) dessert at Yangeunine
Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch has hair ties, aprons, dental floss, toothpicks and even phone chargers. The Yangeunine set seems great as drinking food, with a drink alongside, or just as a meal. A very satisfying date.

There was also sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) for dessert. I was too full to have any, but I was so happy with the meal that I had no regrets. Next time we'll have makgeolli or soju too, and we walked hard toward Samseongjungang Station to head home. Yangeunine Samseong Station Branch is easy to get home from too 🙌
