During a holiday family trip, the writer phoned in an order for a sashimi platter for two (₩50,000), which came in two two-tier bento boxes holding four kinds of seasonal fish plus abalone sashimi, sea squirt, boiled sea snails and shrimp. Nothing to eat near Sol Beach? Try Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout
Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout (어실장 회포장) is a sashimi takeout shop a 10-minute walk from Sol Beach in Yangyang. We came to Sol Beach for a holiday resort trip with the family, and when we arrived we were flustered to find no restaurants nearby, and nothing that delivers (T_T). Then we found Eosiljang near the resort! It was like an oasis in the desert haha.

I was going to order delivery, but ended up phoning in a takeout order and walking the 10 minutes there as exercise. The parking lot at Eosiljang is huge, so parking is easy~~ Even in the middle of the night, though, it was full of cars waiting for takeout!! The place must already be famous.

Will there be a wait even if you book ahead?
Over the holiday, even though I had booked by phone, orders were backed up and I had to wait in the hall. Maybe so many people were heading out on holiday trips nationwide that day, because the owner seemed a bit overwhelmed by the flood of orders! Still, the hall has plenty of seats, so even with a lot of us waiting it didn't feel awkward haha.

Opening hours are listed as 15:00 to 22:00, but they vary with the catch and order volume, so please, please book by Naver, Baemin (a delivery app) or phone before you go~~~

Menu and prices at Eosiljang
The sashimi platter for one is ₩30,000 or ₩40,000, and for two or more it's ₩25,000 per person. So we ordered the platter for two. I wanted to add mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup) too, but it was sold out, probably a popular item, which was a shame (T_T). The weather was just starting to warm up, so everyone must have been craving mulhoe.

All the fish is domestic, and the selection seems to change with the season and the catch~~ Hearing that supply changes from time to time made me trust that they use fresh live fish every time! Fresh seasonal sashimi is a must whenever you come to Gangwon haha.

Free abalone for a photo review
Eosiljang was running a review event: write a photo review on Naver Place and get 1 free abalone. I spotted it while looking around the shop. The abalone sashimi here is fresh and delicious, so everyone, definitely leave a photo review~~

Sashimi in bento boxes: how does it come packed?
Eosiljang packs the sashimi in bento boxes, carefully, even checking how long your trip home will be. They warned us to carry it carefully as is because of the liquid from the sea squirt, and looked after us attentively! Since they pack according to travel time, it helps to tell them in advance~~ Bento-style packing is unusual for sashimi takeout, so they seemed to put in a lot of care.

Platter for two (₩50,000): portion and thickness
The platter for two came in 2 bento boxes. In a regular sashimi restaurant's takeout container, that would be about a large plate plus one side-dish plate~~ Takeout sashimi can be too thin and fish-market sashimi too thick, but this was cut right in the middle haha. The colorful spread is a treat for the eyes too.

Box 1: four seasonal fish, boiled sea snails, abalone sashimi and sea squirt
The first box had four kinds of seasonal fish, boiled sea snails, abalone sashimi and sea squirt. I'd guess the fish were flatfish (gwangeo), rockfish (ureok), sole (dodari) and sea bream. The seafood was fresh and neatly prepared, so it was tasty with no fishy smell.

Box 2: four seasonal fish, shrimp and side dishes
The second box held four kinds of seasonal fish and shrimp, along with fruit cocktail, garlic, chili peppers and rakkyo (pickled scallions). The sides are nice for when you start to get tired of the fish, so they were good to eat alongside. The shrimp were neatly trimmed of horns and whiskers, and the meat was plump and tasty.

A seafood spread at the resort
I added sea urchin roe and sweet shrimp from Sokcho Jungang Market to the Eosiljang platter, and a seafood feast came together in no time haha. The basic lineup is well put together, so we could eat a variety easily~!~! It was my first time getting sashimi takeout in bento boxes, and I loved that there was no shredded radish or glass noodle-like seaweed to deal with, so cleanup was quick.

How many people can eat the platter for two?
With other food alongside, the platter for two looked like enough for 3 to 4 people. We dug in happily, Korean style and Japanese style. The sashimi was stacked in two tiers, so no matter how much we ate, it never seemed to shrink~~~
Next visit I hope to try the mulhoe I missed out on, and I strongly recommend Eosiljang, a great Yangyang sashimi takeout and delivery spot~~
