Jeju galbi restaurant for a pregnant solo dinner: Woljeongri Galbibap

In short

Woljeongri Galbibap (월정리갈비밥) is a restaurant near Woljeong-ri Beach in Gujwa-eup, Jeju, serving set meals of fire-grilled marinated meat. A pregnant Jeju local ate alone at Woljeongri Galbibap at 5 p.m., right after the break time, ordering Set A without the spicy marinated raw crab and a zero cola, and enjoyed the half galbi-flavor, half spicy grilled meat, the grilled abalone and the self-serve side dishes and wrap vegetables. Verdict: Woljeongri Galbibap is an easy Gujwa meal for solo diners, with kid-friendly amenities and convenient parking.

Main photo of the visit to Woljeongri Galbibap in Jeju

Today I came out to Woljeongri on the east side of Jeju to get some fresh air. We happened to arrive around dinnertime, so I went looking for somewhere to eat and found this Woljeongri favorite, "Woljeongri Galbibap" (월정리갈비밥)! I visited it in Woljeongri, Gujwa, and it works for solo meals and family meals alike, so I wanted to introduce it!

Where is Woljeongri Galbibap? Location, parking and hours

Woljeongri Galbibap is at 46 Woljeong 7-gil, Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju. It is open every day from 11:00 to 20:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00. There is space for about 7 cars in front, but it is tight, so they recommend nearby public parking or roadside parking.

It's close to Woljeongri Beach too, so it's a great spot for a meal during a drive or a café tour! I visited at 5 p.m., right after the break time! There was parking right in front of the restaurant, so it was easy to come by car. If the spaces in front are full, you can use the public parking lot nearby! Traveling around east Jeju, parking can be stressful, so this turned out to be a bigger plus than I expected, haha.

Is Woljeongri Galbibap good for eating alone?

The inside of Woljeongri Galbibap was clean and fairly spacious, and the tables were spaced out, so it felt like a place where you can eat comfortably. I went alone and the atmosphere didn't feel awkward at all.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Jeju restaurant that's good for solo dining, or a restaurant in east Jeju. They also have high chairs, so it seems great for visiting with a baby too!

Set A vs. Set B at Woljeongri Galbibap: what I ordered

The menu at Woljeongri Galbibap has two sets, Set A and Set B, and the only difference is whether marinated raw crab (ganjang/yangnyeom gejang) is included. I'm pregnant and don't eat crab, so I ordered Set A and a zero cola, haha.

When you walk in, the owner greets you and guides you right away. There's also good news among Woljeongri Galbibap's services for families: a kids' meal is provided on request up to 2nd grade of elementary school! If you're planning a Jeju trip with kids, it sounds even easier to visit, haha.

A machine serves the food, haha. It was quite generous for one person. Since getting pregnant my digestion hasn't been great and I can't eat much, so I'm worried I'll leave some behind T_T

Fire-grilled meat, half galbi-flavor and half spicy

The grilled marinated meat in the Woljeongri Galbibap set comes half galbi-flavor and half spicy! You can also choose just one flavor, haha.

Grilled abalone: you can eat the innards too

The abalone comes topped with something like a minced garlic sauce, and they explained that since it's boiled and then grilled, you can eat everything, even the innards~

A turban shell decoration was added too, which gave it a very Jeju feel, haha. I'm a Jeju local, but it felt like I'd come to Jeju on vacation.

Side dishes and the self-serve refill corner

The Woljeongri Galbibap set comes with rice, soup and a variety of side dishes, so the table felt full and generous. I especially liked the variety of sides!! I could taste a little of many things: kimchi, pickled onion, seasoned bean sprouts, quail eggs and more, and if you run short you can freely help yourself at the self-serve corner!

When traveling it's hard to get enough vegetables and side dishes, so being able to get more by yourself like this made me really happy!

How was the galbi? The spicy flavor for heat-shy eaters

The galbi at Woljeongri Galbibap was tender and seasoned just right, so it went really well with rice. The spicy flavor was pretty hot for a spice wimp like me, but since it came half and half with the soy-sauce flavor, it was nice to eat them together!

If you run out of wrap vegetables you can easily get more at the self-serve corner, so I went for one refill, haha. Overall it was a meal that filled me up without being overly harsh.

Kid-friendly amenities and meal donations for children in need

Woljeongri Galbibap also has tongs, scissors and phone holders for kids, haha. Just so you know. Another thing that impressed me: I heard Woljeongri Galbibap is the restaurant in Jeju that has donated the most to support children who go without meals. Eating there felt like naturally joining in on something good, which made it more meaningful, haha.

If you visit, be sure to join the Naver receipt review event too. If you write a receipt review, you get a free hallabong (Jeju citrus) drink! It seemed perfect as a dessert drink after the meal.

Woljeongri Galbibap: final verdict on a solo dinner

A Gujwa, Jeju restaurant where you can eat comfortably alone, which is also good to visit with kids, and has convenient parking. Woljeongri Galbibap gives you a hearty meal along with a sense of warm giving.
