Gwanghwamun lunch rush sushi with monkfish liver: Elephant Sushi B set
In short
Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is a sushi restaurant on the basement floor of the Gwanghwamun KT Tower in Jongno, Seoul, connected directly to Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2. Arriving right at the 11:00 opening, we ordered two B sets at 28,000 won each (12 pieces of sushi plus cold soba) and a plump shrimp tempura at 12,000 won with six shrimp. Low-temperature-aged monkfish liver, swordfish and engawa were the highlights, making this a filling, good-value Gwanghwamun lunch for two.

Today I'm introducing Elephant Sushi, a great spot for Gwanghwamun lunch sushi 🍣 whenever you're craving something good.
Where is Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun, and what are the hours?
Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is at 178 Sejong-daero, B1 B109-5, Jongno-gu, Seoul, in the basement of the Gwanghwamun KT Tower. It's open daily 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00. Visit date: August 2026.
It's connected to Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2, so it's really easy to get to by public transit! I'd also recommend it if you're heading to Kyobo Book Centre, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, or Gwanghwamun Square. You also get 2 hours of free parking in the building's basement lot.
What is the restaurant like inside?

I had an errand nearby so I did an opening run haha. The open space had bar seating and roomy table seats. It looked great for solo dining or a group dinner too. I liked the clean, modern feel.
Elephant Sushi menu and what we ordered

The menu isn't just sushi — there's also mixed sashimi, kaisendon, sashimi rice bowl, grilled black cod, and more. It works fine for lunch, but also for a drink or two in the evening. Ordering is done through the tablet at the table.
Here's what we ordered (for two people):
- Elephant Sushi B Set ₩28,000 × 2
- Plump Shrimp Tempura ₩12,000
The B Set comes with 12 pieces of sushi plus cold soba.
How was the 12-piece B Set sushi?

Salad and miso soup came out first. Pickled rakkyo is available on the table.

While I was working on the salad, the sushi came out quickly. Look at that color 🤤

This is the Elephant Sushi B Set — 12 pieces of sushi plus cold soba.

Monkfish liver (ankimo), flounder, and swordfish sushi. The ankimo was soft with a rich, savory flavor and genuinely delicious. The swordfish sushi was truly,, so good. It's topped with a nutty, sweet sauce that's incredible x 100.

Seared salmon, squid, and soy-marinated shrimp sushi. Seared salmon aburi is one of my go-to favorites, and it was just as good as always! The melt-in-your-mouth salmon with the onion garnish was the killer touch 💘
I loaded on the wasabi and nearly shed a tear of joy. Haha.

Futomaki (thick roll), amberjack, toro, and horse mackerel sushi. The futomaki packs so many ingredients into one bite that it's really satisfying. The toro had a great texture, and the amberjack and horse mackerel were clean and nutty.

Akami (lean tuna) and engawa (flounder fin) sushi. The akami melted softly in my mouth, with a subtle umami I loved. The chewy, nutty engawa was also really tasty.
They say Elephant Sushi ages all its live-caught fish in the traditional sushi method, adjusting salt levels and aging time by species. Maybe thanks to that process, every fish had a distinct texture and flavor 👍

The soba had a cool, clean broth with the buckwheat noodles' distinctive flavor coming through well. It really pairs great with sushi.
Is the 12,000 won shrimp tempura worth adding?

Once the shrimp tempura arrived the table was truly loaded 😆 You get six big shrimp.

Perfectly crisp outside, juicy inside, packed with plump shrimp meat — so good. The batter is thin so it's never greasy, just nutty and light. If you love shrimp, this is a must-order!! We ate until we were completely stuffed haha.
If you're near Gwanghwamun Station looking for high-quality sushi, I recommend Elephant Sushi for Gwanghwamun lunch sushi!
