After running around Seongsu-dong all day with my 5th-grade son, we went for a Seongsu Station burger dinner at bd Burger. I'd actually been once before, last winter, with a friend — so this was my second visit. It's char-grilled whole shrimp with avocado, and the shrimp isn't chopped into little bits — you get a plump, distinct bite each time.

With the avocado in there too, the combination worked really well with the shrimp.

My son picked the double cheese burger at bd Burger Seongsu. With a thick patty plus cheese, it looked way heavier than my burger to me.

"You think you can finish that?" Needless worry. After all that walking around Seongsu-dong, he must have been genuinely starving.

The moment he picked it up, he opened his mouth wide and took a proper bite.

But right after that first bite, a problem arose. The bacon wouldn't snap off. He kept pulling it toward his mouth and it just kept stretching out of the burger, while I was cracking up next to him.

He could've just bitten it off, but no — he insisted on pulling the whole thing into his mouth to the very end. Why so serious about one burger, haha. When you're out with a kid, it's often these little nothing moments that stick with you more than the food itself.

On top of the fries that came with the set, we also tried the butter garlic fries and eggplant fritters. The butter garlic fries had sauce poured over the top, so they tasted much richer than regular fries.

The eggplant fritters were crisp on the outside but still had that moist, distinctly eggplant texture on the inside.

If we'd only had the burgers it might have felt a bit lacking, but picking at the sides one by one with my son, we ended up pretty full.

Last time, coming with a friend, I mostly remember just picking whatever we wanted and eating comfortably. This time, with my son, it was different.
