Suwon burger restaurant: mushroom burger, double crunch at Base Burger

These days I've been craving simple but truly satisfying meals that still fill me up, so I visited Base Burger, a handmade burger restaurant near Gwanggyo Jungang Station.

Besides the burgers, a whole spread of genuinely delicious beer snacks too.

A generous place where you can even refill the insanely good potato chips endlessly.

How to find Base Burger at Avenue France Gwanggyo

Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch is on the 2nd floor of Raon Zone in Avenue France Gwanggyo, right next to Lee Chun Bok Tuna (이춘복 참치). Avenue France Gwanggyo is a place I always seem to get lost in no matter how many times I go — from Exit 3 of Gwanggyo Jungang Station, cross the crosswalk, go straight, pass Burger King and Starbucks, then take the escalator up to the 2nd floor of Raon Zone and you'll find Base Burger.

Inside Base Burger: seating and kiosk ordering

The interior of Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch is spacious with plenty of tables, good for group visits too. You order at a kiosk — and just a heads up, you have to enter your own pager number when ordering!

So many options. Someone as indecisive as me could just say 'chef's choice' — but if you like customizing, Base Burger's option system is a great fit.

The self-bar: free potato chip refills for dine-in guests

At Base Burger's self-bar, you can grab free potato chips as many times as you like — though it's for dine-in guests only. They're kept warm and fully stocked, with mayonnaise and ketchup on the side.

Since it's self-serve, scoop up as much as you want and sprinkle on salt to your taste.

Hehe. Hungry, so I snacked on these while waiting for the burgers.

Ooh... delicious. I actually prefer this kind of thick chip — like Pringles or sweet potato chips — over regular fries, and Base Burger's chips are nice and thick, crispy. Warm and fresh with no stale oil smell at all. So good I refilled twice haha.

There's also water at the self-bar, just so you know.

Base Burger set, 12,100 won: how did it taste?

The Base Burger set is ₩12,100 and comes with zero-calorie cola and fries.

Fried in clearly very clean oil, the fries are plump and nicely colored. They're unsalted, so the taste is heavily nutty and fluffy. You can grab salt from the self-bar to taste, or dip them in mayonnaise and ketchup — works great!

Sanitary gloves are provided, but I... prefer eating with my bare hands (just wash up properly in the restroom beforehand!).

Fresh tomato, onion, cheese, romaine lettuce, and a beef patty. The bun has a strong buttery aroma and the beef juices really burst out..!!!! It sticks to your mouth in the best way — genuinely tastes like America(?) lol.

Mushroom Burger, 11,700 won: fried shiitake takes the lead

The Mushroom Burger is ₩11,700, with two large fried shiitake mushroom pieces inside.

The outside is crunch-crunch-crunch — that satisfying kind of crispy, delicious fried texture, and one bite releases an incredible shiitake aroma into your mouth. The chewy burger bun paired with the crispy shiitake fry was truly perfect.

Double Crunch, 14,500 won: the one to order with beer

The Double Crunch is ₩14,500, a menu item meant for two people. I recommend pairing it with draft beer!

Two freshly-fried mozzarella cheese bars that stretch beautifully, plus coleslaw and two sauces. The refreshing crunch is great for cleansing the palate. I got complimented several times for ordering this well haha.

This is insanely, insanely good. So Base Burger is basically a fried food restaurant? The fried shiitake in the mushroom burger was already great, but this crunch chicken is also super crispy outside with tender, juicy chicken thigh meat bursting with flavor. A little spicy and salty — the perfect beer companion, no contest.

Dip it into Base Burger's house sauce, splash! Shouldn't things that make you this happy also be healthy and not make you gain weight? Anyway, this is the kind of flavor that makes your brain happy haha.

Place one piece of crunch chicken on a nutty, well-toasted dinner roll (I also added a mozzarella cheese bar on top later — didn't get a photo, but highly recommend!), dip it in the house sauce, and mm~ this is what a chicken burger should be? Not a half-baked attempt at all — genuinely excellent chicken burger flavor.

Where are the restrooms?

The restroom for Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch is outside the store, elsewhere in the building. With your back to Base Burger, turn left and the restroom is located between Baekrakjeong and Abigo. In photos it looks like this — go straight ahead and it's on the left.
