The weather has been so nice lately that I wanted to have dinner outdoors one weekend 🌙 The Sangbong food alley had outdoor tables spread out everywhere, and after wondering where to go, I ended up at Joajukne Jjukkumi (조아죽네쭈꾸미) Sangbong branch.
Where is Joajukne Jjukkumi in Sangbong?

Joajukne Jjukkumi Sangbong branch is about a 4-minute walk from Sangbong Station Exit 3, inside the Sangbong food alley, so it's easy to find after getting off at the station. There's no free parking. The alley fills up with people in the evening, and Joajukne has outdoor tables spread out too, so the atmosphere is even better on a nice day!!

Is the outdoor seating at Joajukne dog-friendly?
Yes, the outdoor tables at Joajukne Jjukkumi Sangbong are dog-friendly 🐶💕 That was one of the reasons I came. The weather was so good that I wanted to eat outside, and when I looked it up, dogs were allowed at the outdoor tables. So I brought Cream along this day!!

What we ordered and the prices
- Sungnyung (scorched rice tea) + assorted add-ons + jjuksam (baby octopus and pork belly) ₩18,900 × 2
- Steamed egg ₩6,900
- Rice balls ₩3,500
- Soju ₩5,000

Watching soccer while you eat ⚽️
It happened to be a soccer day, so there was a big screen set up inside Joajukne. Looking in, all the customers were glued to the screen watching the match.
Side dishes: pickled radish, perilla leaves, garlic and ssamjang
The side dishes at Joajukne are pickled radish, perilla leaves, garlic and ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste). The baby octopus is on the spicy side, so the pickled radish and perilla leaves go especially well.

Aren't these rice balls so round and pretty? ❤️

What comes in the sungnyung + assorted add-ons + jjuksam set?
Our jjuksam has arrived~ The plump baby octopus on top looked really appetizing. You could tell just by looking that they were meaty, so I was looking forward to a chewy texture. Pork belly goes in too, along with all the assorted add-ons, so the whole pan looked quite generous.
The sungnyung that comes with the set was served too. It arrived hot in a stone pot, which made it nice to spoon up between bites of octopus. It's nutty and toasty, and goes really well with the spicy octopus. Especially after a bite of octopus and a shot of soju, a spoonful of warm sungnyung felt so soothing for the stomach!
A giant steamed egg, because I can't handle spice
I can't handle spicy food well, so I added a steamed egg (₩6,900) too. And it came out way bigger than I expected! It looked like it had about 10 eggs in it, a real bomb of a steamed egg, and I was shocked by the size from the first look 😳 The fluffy, puffed-up egg went down smoothly when I scooped it, with a gentle nutty aroma of sesame oil, so my spoon kept going back.

Do the staff stir-fry it for you at Joajukne?
Yes, the staff at Joajukne stir-fry it for you. You don't have to stir anything yourself; they watch the state of the ingredients and cook them piece by piece. I was impressed by how carefully they fried it so the sauce didn't splatter. They mix the baby octopus, pork belly and add-ons so everything cooks evenly, and tell you when it's ready to eat, so you can just wait and dig in.

How spicy is the jjuksam at Joajukne?
The sauce at Joajukne is definitely spicy!!! To me it was slightly spicier than Shin Ramyun, so if you don't handle spice well, try a little at a time rather than eating a lot from the start. But it's not just a sauce that's all heat. When you put it in your mouth, the spicy sauce hits first, then a gentle sweetness follows.

Rice cakes, glass noodles and perilla leaf wraps
With the add-ons, eating was more fun than with just octopus and pork belly. The rice cakes and glass noodles especially soak up the spicy sauce, so you really taste the seasoning.
My favorite way to eat baby octopus is in a perilla leaf wrap. So this day too I stuffed in all sorts of things and wrapped it up: baby octopus + bean sprouts + glass noodles + garlic + flying fish roe, then a little dip in the special mayo sauce. Seriously delicious 🤤
When is Joajukne Jjukkumi Sangbong worth visiting?
On a nice day, it's great to sit at the outdoor tables, feel the breeze and have baby octopus with soju, and since dogs are allowed outside, anyone who wants to come with their dog like I did can take note 🐶 On soccer days you can watch the match on the big screen inside, so it also seemed fine for drinks with friends while watching the game.
I also thought it was fun that the kiosk has a separate free-service menu. Besides ice cream and coffee, they even have hangover remedies and digestive aids, so you can feel the owner's thoughtfulness 👍
