Ramen shop near Keimyung for non-noodle eaters: Myeonsikdang, Daegu

In short

Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch is a ramen and katsu restaurant on Seodang-ro 9-gil in Dalseo, Daegu. Visiting with her mother, the writer ordered the set for two at the kiosk: spicy tonkotsu ramen, mazesobap (mixed rice bowl), two orders of mozzarella cheese katsu (2 pieces each) and lemonade. Because Myeonsikdang serves rice dishes alongside noodles, even a companion who dislikes noodles could eat well.

Set for two at Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch with ramen and katsu

I went for lunch with my mom to Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch. Since it was just the two of us, instead of picking separate dishes we ordered the set for two. It came with 2 main dishes, 2 side dishes, and an ade drink. I chose the spicy tonkotsu ramen, and since my mom isn't a fan of noodles, she went with the mazesobap (mixed rice bowl).

Between the two of us we got to try spicy tonkotsu ramen, mazesobap, mozzarella cheese katsu, and lemonade.

Inside Myeonsikdang and how kiosk ordering works

Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building on Seodang-ro 9-gil, and you order via kiosk. Walking in, the space felt spacious and overall clean. There were several tables set up, but the layout wasn't cramped at all, so it was a comfortable place to eat with my mom.

Along the window there was a long row of seating too.

What comes in Myeonsikdang's set for two

The set for two at Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch comes with 2 main dishes, 2 side dishes, and an ade. For mains we chose one spicy tonkotsu ramen and one mazesobap. For sides we ordered two orders of mozzarella cheese katsu (2pc) so we could each have our own. For the drink we picked lemonade. Once everything was laid out on the table — mains, sides, and drink — it looked really generous with such a variety.

How spicy is the spicy tonkotsu ramen?

The dish I chose was the spicy tonkotsu ramen. You could adjust the spice level, but I ordered it at the basic spicy setting. To me it felt about as spicy as Shin Ramyun — just right.

On the other hand, my mom, who isn't great with spicy food, said it felt spicy to her. Even at the same basic spice level, how spicy something feels seems to vary a lot person to person. The reddish broth came topped with noodles, chashu, egg, and seaweed, so it looked hearty even before I took a bite.

I like it nice and spicy, so it was great as a hangover cure too, and I really enjoyed it. If you're looking for a good ramen restaurant in Dalseo and craving something spicy, this dish is worth checking out.

Mazesobap: the rice bowl chosen instead of noodles

Since my mom usually isn't into noodles, she ordered the mazesobap at Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch. Instead of noodles like in mazesoba, it's a dish where you mix rice and toppings together, which suited her taste well.

She mixed the rice, meat, and vegetables all together and tried it — the savory flavor went really well with the rice, and she enjoyed it a lot.

Watching my mom eat made me want to try the noodle version, mazesoba, next time. If you're picking a menu at this Keimyung University area restaurant and your group has different preferences for noodles versus rice, this is one way to each order what you like.

Sides: mozzarella cheese katsu and a pitcher of lemonade

The mozzarella cheese katsu we ordered as a side also stood out during this meal. Looking at the cut cross-section, you can see plenty of melted cheese packed inside.

We each had two pieces of the mozzarella cheese katsu. There was so much cheese inside that we got to fully enjoy the cheesy flavor.

The lemonade we ordered came out generously in a big pitcher.

It was more than enough for the two of us to drink to our heart's content — I liked that the portion was so large.

Parking and service at Myeonsikdang

Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch doesn't have its own dedicated parking lot, so when we visited we parked in a nearby alley. What stood out at the restaurant was the friendly service from the young owners. We finished our meal feeling good in a clean, comfortable space.

Final verdict on Myeonsikdang near Keimyung University

My mom and I ordered the set for two, each picking one ramen or rice dish, plus cheese katsu and ade to share.

The spicy tonkotsu ramen was just the right spice level for my taste, about like Shin Ramyun, and the mazesobap's savory flavor blended really well when mixed with the rice.

It was a meal where we got to enjoy a variety of things — from the cheese-packed mozzarella cheese katsu to the generously sized lemonade.

The spacious, clean restaurant and the friendly service also left a good impression.
