Bangi-dong octopus pub, Saturday samhap before the wait: Muneo Cheonha
In short
Muneo Cheonha (문어천하) is an old-school octopus and bossam (boiled pork wraps) pub in the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. The writer arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday and ordered the octopus samhap (a three-way sharing platter, 55,000 won) with somaek (soju mixed with beer), and kimchi bean sprout soup, octopus steamed egg and octopus corn cheese came with it at no extra charge. Thanks to a generous, octopus-heavy spread, Muneo Cheonha is a good-value pick for an evening of drinks in the Bangi-dong food alley.

Gangdong is my fiancé's home turf, so we go to the Bangi food alley all the time, and we are total old-school-restaurant hunters, aren't we?! We heard there was a place in Bangi-dong where you can eat octopus samhap, so we rushed right over. It's Muneo Cheonha (문어천하)!

Is Muneo Cheonha easy to find in the Bangi-dong food alley?
Go into the Bangi-dong food alley and turn into the 3rd alley on the left, and you'll see the Muneo Cheonha sign right away!

It's really easy to find, and the exterior already gets a pass 👍🏻 from us old-school-restaurant fanatics.

When does the Saturday dinner wait start at Muneo Cheonha?
When we got to Muneo Cheonha around 5:30pm on a Saturday, it was already quite full, and a wait started after 6pm. The inside isn't big, but it's not like there are no seats either. On a Friday night or weekend evening, though, it can fill up fast.

Where is the restroom at Muneo Cheonha?
The restroom isn't inside the restaurant; you use the shared restroom inside the Hyundai Dream Valley commercial building. Leave the restaurant and follow the arrow to the entrance into the building, and the shared restroom is inside. I marked the location, so check it out when you need it!

When you find an empty seat, the spoons, chopsticks and small plates may already be set out, and if not, the owner brings them right over! The call button for staff is stuck on the tissue box too.

Muneo Cheonha menu and octopus samhap price
The octopus samhap (문어삼합, octopus, bossam and kimchi combo) at Muneo Cheonha is ₩55,000, and we ordered the best-seller octopus samhap plus somaek (soju mixed with beer), the must-have for a killer side dish 😆 The menu is posted on the wall, and each table also has a separate menu with everything and its price. I took photos, so have a look!

What comes free with the octopus samhap at Muneo Cheonha?
When you order the octopus samhap at Muneo Cheonha, kimchi bean sprout soup, steamed egg with chopped octopus, and octopus corn cheese come as standard! The soju and beer we ordered arrived right away too.

It looks insane... Maybe because octopus is the main ingredient, they put it in everything here without holding back.
The freshly served octopus corn cheese has super stretchy cheese 👍🏻 One bite of corn cheese.... one sip of somaek, cheers 🍻 Even looking at it again, I want more..

Octopus samhap at Muneo Cheonha: portion size and value
The main dish is finally here, the octopus samhap!! It looks insane... The samhap spread is generous on its own, and with the steamed egg, corn cheese and kimchi bean sprout soup all coming free, ₩55,000 felt like great value.

The important stuff deserves a close-up too... The bossam looks incredible, and there's ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), salted shrimp, seasoned dried radish strips, aged kimchi and more to go with the samhap.. and the octopus, competing with the bossam for best looks!!!!!

How to eat the bossam at Muneo Cheonha
- Put a piece of meat on a cabbage leaf and eat it with the dried radish strips.
- Put a piece of meat on aged kimchi and eat it with ssamjang.
Why wouldn't you go to this Bangi favorite, Muneo Cheonha..?
