What is the atmosphere like at Sushi Doku The Songdo?

The interior pairs toned-down wood with a neat Japanese feel, so it's upscale and comfortable 🌿 Seats are spaced widely and the tables are laid out with room to spare, so it suits a date, a family meal or a tidy get-together!!

The soft lighting makes photos look good too, and the place lifted my mood the moment I walked in 🤍 (Baby chairs are available.)

Each table has soy sauce and a cup, and water arrived as soon as we sat down!! I also liked that the tableware is individually wrapped ✨ Spoons, napkins and wet wipes are in the drawer on the side of the table, so help yourself.

Every table has a brush just for soy sauce, so you can lightly brush it onto the sushi without breaking the rice and enjoy the fish's own flavor. That seemed like a real plus!! You can dip or brush, whichever you prefer 😋

What comes in the ₩25,900 Premium Sushi Set?

We ordered two of the signature Premium Sushi Set (명품스시정식, ₩25,900) 🍣✨ It comes with 10 pieces of carefully selected, fresh aged sushi, a neat salad, crispy tempura, udon and chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), all laid out at once. The lineup and the look were perfect, and I gasped the moment it arrived! 😋

When you order, you can choose with or without wasabi on the sushi, so order to your taste!

First bite: truffle chawanmushi (savory egg custard)

The best thing to eat before the sushi was the truffle chawanmushi! The moment I lifted the lid, a subtle, rich truffle aroma grabbed me 🍄✨ The egg custard was soft and silky like pudding, with a salty, deeply savory broth and a luxurious truffle flavor, and it melted in my mouth! It was a perfect first bite to whet the appetite before the main sushi 😋

10 pieces of long-tailed aged sushi

Finally the main event, the sushi! Unlike ordinary sushi places, the neta (fish topping) here is piled on with long tails, which caught my eye from the first look 🍣✨ The lineup was perfect, from fresh white fish to soft tuna and salmon, anko liver (monkfish liver) and shrimp! Start with the white fish :)

I brushed on soy sauce and took a bite, and the fish, aged live that day, was chewy with a savory flavor that wrapped around my mouth, just art! The seasoning and temperature of the rice were just right too, so it blended smoothly with the sticky aged fish. It's not sushi with just a lot of rice: the cuts are big and the tails long, so you get the fish's hearty texture and flavor filling your mouth~ No wonder it has so many customers!! 😀

Udon and salad in the Premium Sushi Set

The udon that comes with the Premium Sushi Set doesn't feel like a half-hearted side. The broth was really deep and clean 🍲✨ The noodles weren't soggy and stayed chewy and bouncy, and the broth had the rich savoriness of katsuobushi (bonito flakes) with a slight kick, so it was perfect to sip between bites of cold sushi! It warmed my stomach and I never got tired of it, right to the end 😋

Udon served with the Premium Sushi Set

The basic salad that came with it 🥗 The vegetables were fresh and, above all, the nutty dressing whetted the appetite nicely, so I cleaned the plate!

Shrimp tempura and karaage served with the set

Shrimp tempura and karaage (Japanese fried chicken)

The shrimp tempura and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) were so freshly fried that you could hear the crunch at the first bite 🍤🍗✨ The shrimp was plump and savory inside, and the karaage was juicy, moist and tender. Neither was greasy, and both were cleanly fried, a great side alongside the sushi 😋

After the meal: plum tea, mouthwash and floss

There's warm plum tea set out on one side of the shop. You all know plum tea is good for digestion, right? After a hearty meal of oily tempura and rich sushi, finishing with a cup of warm, sweet-and-sour plum tea made my stomach feel settled~ Little details and thoughtful touches like this really raise my satisfaction 😋

I was also very happy that the counter had disposable gargle, dental floss and toothpicks. I could freshen up my mouth on the way out and leave feeling clean to the very end 😋 For caring about details, Sushi Doku The Songdo gets my top rating~💛

Sushi Doku The Songdo: final verdict

Sushi Doku The Songdo nailed the balance between lightly seasoned vinegared rice and long, chewy aged fish! From the truffle chawanmushi to the udon and crunchy tempura the set is generous, and the plum tea dessert and hygiene touches were satisfying too. If you're looking for a neat sushi place near Songhyeona and Honesta, do visit! 🍣✨
