Pre-movie dinner at a Suwon Chinese restaurant: Mirim Yangjang

Another trip out to Suwon Station! We went to see Christopher Nolan's Odyssey at Megabox Suwon Station, and to grab dinner beforehand we headed not into the Megabox building itself but into Time Villas next door...

Where is Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch, and what are the hours?

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch is on the 3rd floor of Time Villas in Suwon. It's open daily from 10:30 to 20:00.

And it really stands out thanks to the red exterior.

Time Villas has a large, well-organized parking lot, so parking isn't a worry. And of course parking support is available too!

and they can be combined with other stores' support.

Inside Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch

The interior is really striking. It totally feels like a Chinese restaurant~~

There are quite a lot of tables, and since it's an open kitchen, hygiene doesn't seem like a worry. Even with all those tables, this place is so popular that on weekends it's usually packed.

What is on the Mirim Yangjang menu?

You check the menu via QR code and order from there. Drinks are also given out during review events.

There's also a menu board with pictures and prices right at the entrance. True to a Chinese restaurant, the menu is quite varied.

Disposable aprons are also set up inside the restaurant.

The standard Chinese restaurant side dishes are here too — pickled radish and onion, black bean sauce (chunjang), plus soy sauce, vinegar, and red pepper flakes.

The Peking duck set: 59,000 won for half a duck

The Peking duck set arrived!! It comes with half a Peking duck + 2 meals (jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, or fried rice) + even a drink! We chose jjajangmyeon and jjamppong.

Half a Peking duck!! The skin is set aside separately on top, and the meat is cooked just right.

The meat itself is incredibly tender. Being able to try Peking duck at such a reasonable price is great too!

Eating the meat alone is tasty, but it's best wrapped up in the pancakes and vegetables!

The pancakes have sheets of paper between them, which makes them really easy to peel apart. They're also very thin, so they don't get in the way of the duck's flavor, don't smell of flour at all, and have a nice chewy texture.

The vegetables are fresh, and with the chewy pancake, eating it together with the Peking duck is pure bliss!! Oh, and pancakes and vegetables can be refilled for free, so no need to worry — just eat as much as you want.

The skin is the real delicacy with Peking duck — crispy, with that rich fatty aroma that makes it delicious.

Jjajangmyeon, noodles in black bean sauce

Next up, jjajangmyeon! It comes topped with julienned cucumber. If you can't eat cucumber, it's probably best to ask them to leave it off.

The black bean sauce is tasty, and it coats the noodles well so the flavor really comes through!!

Jjamppong, spicy seafood noodle soup

Lastly, jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup). The broth uses seafood stock with chili oil worked in nicely for a deep flavor! Just the right amount of spicy kick.

And the portion is bigger than expected. The noodles are springy too, so there's fun in eating them on their own.

There's quite a lot of seafood packed in too!

Is the Mirim Yangjang Peking duck set worth 59,000 won?

Chinese restaurant prices have gone up a lot lately, and just ordering two meals plus sweet and sour pork will run you ₩40,000–50,000 as a baseline. Comparing against that, paying a little more to get Peking duck thrown in feels like huge value!! And the basic meals are tasty on their own too, so it's also a solid choice if you just want a simple bowl of jjajangmyeon or jjamppong.
