Tonkatsu spot near Jangji Station: cheese katsu & cold soba at Gomemui
In short
Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive is a Japanese restaurant serving sotbap (rice cooked in a hot pot) and tonkatsu on B1 of the Techno Building at Hyundai City Outlet Gardenfive, near Jangji Station in Songpa, Seoul. Instead of sotbap, the order at Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive was a whole mozzarella cheese katsu (4 pieces), a side of hirekatsu (pork tenderloin cutlet, 2 pieces) and a cold soba and ebiten (shrimp tempura) set. The thin-battered cheese katsu and the refreshing cold soba balanced each other's richness, and the spacious, comfortable dining room makes Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive a good family meal after shopping.

Where is Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive?
Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive is on the basement floor of the Hyundai City Outlet Techno Building inside Gardenfive. It's 189m from Jangji Station Exit 4, open daily 10:30–21:00 (break time 15:00–17:00, last order 20:00, 20:30 on weekends), and parking is available. Today I stopped by Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive, a great spot for a family meal while out shopping at Gardenfive.

Once you walk into the Hyundai City Outlet Techno Building and take the escalator down to the basement floor, it's right there on your right.

There's a big menu board set up right in front of the entrance, so you can check the menu before going in. Being inside Gardenfive, there were a lot of families around.

What's the vibe and ordering system like at Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive?
Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive is much bigger than other Gomemui branches, with wider spacing between tables. I've been to other Gomemui locations before, and maybe because this one's inside Gardenfive, the space felt open and airy rather than cramped.

Every table has a T-order tablet, so ordering was easy.

After ordering, I checked the payment history and was startled to see over ₩80,000 on the total — turns out it included previous customers' orders too, once I looked closer.

Wet wipes, napkins, paper cups, and utensils were all neatly set out on the table.

There are even aprons on the wall.

The name Gomemui combines the Japanese word for rice, "gome," with "mui," meaning one-of-a-kind — together symbolizing a precious flavor found nowhere else. It's a name that inspires trust as a sotbap (rice pot) restaurant, but today I was craving crispy fried food more than rice, so I ordered the whole mozzarella cheese katsu and the katsuo cold soba plus shrimp tempura set.
How was the whole mozzarella cheese katsu (4 pieces)?
Gomemui's whole mozzarella cheese katsu has a thin batter, so it's crispy and not too greasy — I never got tired of it. All 4 pieces were packed full of mozzarella that looked ready to spill out.

The whole mozzarella cheese katsu finally arrived!! Packed so full of cheese it looked like it was about to overflow.

Before diving into the main event, a warm broth came along to calm my starving stomach.

Hungry as I was, I dipped it in sauce and took a quick bite. Since the batter is on the thinner side, it's crispy and less greasy, so it wasn't hard to keep eating.

Isn't that mozzarella cheese pull absolutely gorgeous 💕
Is the side hire katsu (2 pieces) worth ordering too?
Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive sells hire katsu (fillet cutlet) separately as a side dish, 2 pieces, so alongside the cheese katsu you get a little taste of the tenderloin too. The meat was moist and tender — even better than I expected.

I wanted to try the hire katsu too, and since it's sold as a 2-piece side, I added it on. The meat was moist and tender, even tastier than expected. Only getting 2 pieces felt way too short...✨️
Does the cold soba plus shrimp tempura set pair well with tonkatsu?
Gomemui's cold soba plus ebi-ten (shrimp tempura) set comes with a huge portion of noodles, and the cool, clean broth refreshingly cut through the richness left behind by the tonkatsu. The combination of cheese katsu and cold soba was really the highlight of this meal.

Next up, the cold soba plus shrimp tempura set! The noodle portion was huge.

Clean and refreshingly cool — it cleared away the slight greasiness from the tonkatsu, and the combination was fantastic.

Dipping the thick, crispy shrimp tempura in ranch sauce. Honestly, I actually preferred dipping it in tonkatsu sauce instead of ranch — it felt less greasy and tastier.

The shrimp meat was pretty plump and full.

Finished off cleanly with a cabbage salad!
Who is Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive good for?
Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive had high-quality food and, being right inside Gardenfive, is a great tonkatsu and sotbap restaurant to visit for a family meal after shopping.
