In short
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, on basement level 1 of the plaza outside Munjeong Station Exit 3, right next to Mega Coffee, and every dish at Gome Mui is made with rice koji. Arriving at noon meant a full waiting list, and the order was the summer seasonal cold soba, cheese tonkatsu and the spicy mazeudon set. If you're stuck on where to eat lunch in Munjeong-dong, you have to try Gome Mui, a Japanese restaurant near Munjeong Station.

Even showing up right at noon, Gome Mui in Munjeong already had a full waiting list. Before I'd even eaten a bite, I could tell how popular this place was — I couldn't wait to try it.
I was extra curious because I'd heard every menu item here uses rice koji!
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong: location, parking and hours
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong
Hours are Mon–Sat 11:00–21:00 / Sun 11:00–15:00, with last order at 14:30 and 20:30.
You can park at Munjeong Station's Tera Tower, and 1 hour of parking is covered — restaurants with parking are the best. I got a little confused finding it, but there's a basement plaza right as you come out of Munjeong Station Exit 3. There's a Mega Coffee in that plaza, and Gome Mui is right next to it.

Inside Gome Mui and the counter seats for solo diners
There were a lot of tables inside Gome Mui — 4-tops, 2-tops, and even counter seats for eating solo.

I wrote my name on the waiting list outside and mulled over the menu while I waited.

What we ordered: cold soba, cheese tonkatsu and the spicy mazeudon set
Gome Mui has a lot of Japanese dishes — tonkatsu, mazesoba, udon, pot rice, soba, you name it — so I had no idea what to pick. After a lot of deliberation, I ordered the summer cold soba, cheese tonkatsu, and the spicy mazesoba set (which comes with tonkatsu).

You order and pay right at the table using a tablet, which is super convenient.

Spicy mazeudon set: heat that cuts the richness
After a short wait, the first dish arrived — the spicy mazeudon set. I really love mazeudon and eat it a lot, but it can start to feel heavy after a while. This spicy version, though, had chili flakes that cut right through that richness.

The tonkatsu that comes with the set is a must
This tonkatsu that comes as a side with the set — you absolutely have to order the set for this. Crispy Japanese-style tonkatsu, and the second you bite in, the juices just burst through. You cannot skip this tonkatsu, seriously. They said it's low-temperature aged with salt koji, and the juiciness proves it — this thing is a total marvel! It made me want to come back and order the full tonkatsu set meal next time!

Can you see that crispy breading, those distinct layers of breadcrumb?

I mixed the mazeudon up well and dug in for a bite.

The bouncy, springy noodles really stood out in this spicy mazeudon.

Summer seasonal cold soba at Gome Mui
The second dish was the cold soba — a must-eat in summer! I actually make this at home myself sometimes; it's a dish I really love.

Slick, glossy noodles and cool soba broth — cold soba is the first thing I think of when summer comes to mind.

Cheese tonkatsu dipped in the mazeudon sauce
The last dish was the cheese tonkatsu. Whenever I go to a tonkatsu place, this is what I always order — one regular tonkatsu, one cheese tonkatsu.

First, I drizzled dressing over the cabbage salad side dish — now I was ready to eat the tonkatsu!

I had a feeling the spicy mazeudon sauce would go well with the cheese tonkatsu, so I tried dipping it in — and the cheese and spicy seasoning matched perfectly. Dabbing on a pea-sized bit of wasabi and dipping it in salt was also a delicious little variation.

If you pick one dish: the salt-koji aged tonkatsu
The cheese stretched beautifully, the portion was huge, and the tonkatsu pieces were thick and generous. Every dish was delicious, but if I had to recommend just one, it'd be the tonkatsu. That salt-koji aged tonkatsu is so, so good — you all really need to go to Gome Mui near Munjeong Station just for that. I didn't get to try it this time, but I noticed a lot of other diners ordering the pot rice too, so I'd recommend that as well!
To all the office workers in Munjeong-dong looking for a good lunch spot near Munjeong Station — why not give Gome Mui a try?
