Dongtan restaurant recommendation for gomtang (bone broth soup): Baekok Dongtan

Now that it's getting a little chilly, a warm bowl of soup is exactly what I crave! This time I went looking for a good gomtang spot in Dongtan and ended up back at Baekok :) I had such a great meal there before that I went again~ Let me share my story about Baekok, the real deal gomtang spot famous for Ko Kyung-pyo's fit body haha~

Where is Baekok Dongtan, and what are the hours and parking?

Baekok Dongtan is located at 160 Dongtan-yeokro, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, basement floor 1 of Lotte Department Store Dongtan. It's right next to Sisihoshi~ Check the dining F&B map below to find it — it's right in front of the food pop-up on the Isungdang side.

How many seats does Baekok Dongtan have?

Baekok Dongtan only has 4 table seats in the actual store, but there are plenty of food court seats behind it :)

Baekok Dongtan's main menu includes pork gomtang, spicy gomtang, herbal gomtang, plus cabbage dumplings, bolkkorangi, and cabbage dumpling soup! There's also a set menu that lets you enjoy cabbage dumplings and gomtang together~

There were detailed descriptions for each menu item too~ The basic pork gomtang is made light and clean with domestic pork shoulder and bone broth simmered for a long time, there's a spicy version made with cheongyang chili and a fiery seasoning, and an herbal gomtang with medicinal ingredients added for deep umami! The healthy cabbage dumplings, packed full with meat and kimchi, were so good — a must-order item.

They've also newly launched a kids' gukbap (rice and soup)~ A light and nutritious gukbap made for children! And apparently every bowl at Baekok is finished with toremyeon — a traditional method where hot broth is poured over rice several times to even out the temperature and seasoning, a technique passed down from marketplace gukbap shops of the Joseon era! To bring the rice and soup to the same temperature and let the deep flavor of the clear pork gomtang soak into every last grain, Baekok doesn't serve the rice separately~ Started in Seongsu and loved by office workers and tourists alike, this pork gomtang specialist — you can trust it, right?

How does the pork gomtang set (soup, cabbage dumplings, drink) taste?

What I ordered was Baekok Dongtan's pork gomtang set, made up of pork gomtang + cabbage dumplings + a drink. It was so nice to enjoy sides along with the main dish instead of just ordering one main menu item!!!!

The basic side dishes came out like this too!

First I tried the piping-hot pork gomtang! The broth was warm and clean, so it was easy to enjoy from the very first spoonful~ Mixing rice into the broth and eating it together made me think — yeah, this is exactly the flavor you eat gomtang for 🤭 The pork went so well with the broth, and eating it with rice made for a really filling bowl! Perfect for a day when you want a warm, hearty meal instead of something spicy or heavy!!!!

The broth is really so delicious and light while still being really clean! The meat wasn't tough at all, it was really tender. If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant at Lotte Department Store Dongtan, this is honestly a total recommendation ><. A healthy, non-spicy meal that's light and easy on the stomach 🩷

How many cabbage dumplings do you get, and for how much?

Baekok's cabbage dumplings are ₩10,000 for 4 pieces if you order them on their own, or 2 pieces if ordered as part of a set. And these dumplings were honestly so surprisingly good!!!! Eating just the gomtang alone can feel a bit plain, but having dumplings alongside made for great bites in between. It's cabbage-wrapped dumpling skin, but inside it was really packed full with kimchi and meat!!!! It was even better being able to eat the dumplings in a healthy way too. If you just want to try one, you can also get it through the review event~

If you go to the food pickup area at Baekok Dongtan, they even have gargle, floss, and wet wipes ready to go! Every time I come I grab floss and gargle, and I really appreciate this kind of thoughtful touch ><. As always, the places with great food also tend to have great service.

Is Baekok Dongtan comfortable for solo dining in Dongtan?

After eating the pork gomtang plus dumplings, I ended up feeling pretty full!!! These days I keep craving warm soup + rice combos over spicy, heavy food, and Baekok's pork gomtang was perfect for a day like that. Best of all, gomtang isn't heavy or awkward to eat alone, so if you're looking for solo dining spots in Dongtan, this one's worth keeping in mind.
