Bucheon bakery, ₩50,000 of barley loaves and jam for Mom: Chamsae Bori
In short
Chamsae Bori Sikppang (참새보리식빵) is a sticky-barley loaf bakery on Gyeongin-ro in Sosa-gu, Bucheon, known as the No. 1 loaf on the TV show "Master of Living." Because Mom wanted to try Chamsae Bori Sikppang, the writer joined the opening queue at about 9:40am, picked up the Grand Prize, grain and rye sticky barley loaves plus strawberry jam, and spent over 50,000 won on bread alone. The loaves are moist and easy on the stomach even in large amounts, making Chamsae Bori Sikppang the first bakery the writer would recommend in Bucheon.

What is Chamsae Bori Sikppang in Bucheon?
Chamsae Bori Sikppang (참새보리식빵) is a sticky-barley sikppang (Korean-style milk bread loaf) bakery on Gyeongin-ro in Sosa-gu, Bucheon, run by the baker who won first place on the TV show "Master of Living". Do you know this Bucheon bread spot?!?! I saw the show, found out the winning baker's shop was near my house, and went. It was definitely moist and easy on the stomach, so I went back again this time!
I go because the bread is good, but this time my mom said she wanted to try the bread here, so I ended up buying a ton~~~
- Location: 183-1 Gyeongin-ro, 1st floor
- Hours: 10:00–20:00 (closed Monday and Thursday)
- Menu: Grand Prize sticky barley, grain sticky barley, rye sticky barley

What time should you go for the opening queue at Chamsae Bori Sikppang?
I got there around 9:40am, 20 minutes before opening, and a long line had already formed. It's within walking distance of my home, so I rubbed my eyes and did the open-run first thing in the morning.
When I first went, the place was super hot and you couldn't get bread without an open-run, and from recent reviews, tons of people still do it. To eat freshly baked loaves, I cut my sleep short and arrived around 9:40.

I came through Jayu Market (자유시장), so I approached from the side of the shop, and I couldn't see a line and thought, huh?? No wait today? As if~~~ The line stretched out the other way!!

What bread does Chamsae Bori Sikppang sell?
Right now the shop sells just three loaves: Grand Prize sticky barley, grain sticky barley, and rye sticky barley. Standing in line, I quickly scanned the breads. The shop became famous after winning the top prize for the best loaf in Korea on "Master of Living". I think there used to be other breads, but now it's only loaves!

Opening hours are posted, but the shop closes early once it sells out, so I recommend the open-run! You can watch more bread coming out as it's made, and buy as much as you want!

The shop lets in a set number of people at a time, and when someone leaves the next customer goes in, so it wasn't crowded and there was no inconvenience at all. The smell of bread hits you the moment you walk in~~ so good!!

How do the Grand Prize, grain and rye sticky barley loaves taste different?
Grand Prize sticky barley: the most popular, chewy and nutty
The Grand Prize sticky barley loaf sat on the top shelf, and everyone was buying three or more of it. Looking at customers coming out, it seemed like everyone carried two bags haha. When I tried it, it really was different from other barley bread: super chewy and nutty, and tasty haha

Grain sticky barley: nuttier, better the more you chew
The grain sticky barley is the next most popular, and I liked it too. It's nuttier and gets better the more you chew, and since it's said to be great for managing blood sugar, I bet lots of people buy it for that!

Rye sticky barley: small size, good kids' snack
The rye sticky barley was labeled as a loaf for gut health, and the size is small, so I thought it'd make a good snack for kids!! They're all sticky barley loaves but each tastes a little different, so I recommend buying one of each~

Some people take a whole loaf home and tear it by hand, and Chamsae Bori Sikppang sells uncut whole loaves too, so you can buy them as they are~~

How do you buy and pay at Chamsae Bori Sikppang?
You line up, put loaves in a basket one by one, and pay at the counter. Right next to the counter they also sell financiers (small almond cakes). It looked like you get one free financier for writing a receipt review, but we didn't do it. They did look tempting haha

A few of this, a few of that, and before you know it the basket is full of loaves..... haha, just looking at it fills me up!!

Should you also buy the mascarpone milk cream and strawberry jam?
One side of the shop also sells mascarpone milk cream and strawberry jam, and we only bought the jam. But the mascarpone milk cream on top of the bread is so good too! There was a tasting spot in front of the counter, and I tried it. The cream was the real deal!!

₩50,000 of bread with Mom: how it tasted at home
This Chamsae Bori Sikppang haul came to over ₩50,000 for bread alone. Yes, the person who spent over ₩50,000 on bread alone is me!!! We shared some and ate the rest at home with jam, so it was gone pretty quickly!!

At home I spread strawberry jam on it for a snack, and it's moist and soft, plain and nutty the more you chew, so you keep eating without feeling weighed down! And even after eating a lot, my stomach doesn't feel uncomfortable, which I love.
If anyone asks me to recommend a bread spot in Bucheon, I'd recommend Chamsae Bori Sikppang right away! The bread here is good haha
