Why I picked up omegi-tteok at Suragan Tteokbang on my Jeju trip

On this Jeju trip I picked up the omegi-tteok (Jeju millet rice cakes) I really wanted to try from Suragan Tteokbang (수라간떡방) on Noyeon-ro in Jeju-si 🍡 There's so much to eat in Jeju, restaurants, cafés, this and that, but personally I feel like omegi-tteok is something you have to eat at least once on a Jeju trip, hahaha ☺️

Which omegi-tteok flavors can you choose at Suragan Tteokbang?

There are so many omegi-tteok flavors here! Having just one flavor would be a little disappointing, but Suragan Tteokbang has several, so choosing is part of the fun 👀 You can pick the flavors when you get it packed, too, so you can try a bit of everything 👏🏻

The set sizes were also laid out clearly in the shop, haha. With the quantities explained so well, it was easy to pick exactly as many as I wanted ✨ I didn't use delivery this time, I just visited and picked up in person!

Suragan Tteokbang has plenty of other tteok (rice cakes) besides omegi-tteok :) There's injeolmi (roasted soybean powder rice cake), which I love, and even yakgwa (traditional honey cookie)..✨✨

How was the packaging for the reserved pickup?

The box packaging for Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok was really neat. I had reserved my omegi-tteok for pickup ✌🏻 It wasn't meant as a gift, but it still put me in a good mood ☺️ I'd recommend it for gift packaging too 👍🏻🩷

When I opened the box, each omegi-tteok was individually wrapped!! Perfect for taking one out at a time in the car, right?! 👍🏻

How do you store and thaw omegi-tteok?

The box from Suragan Tteokbang also came with a note on how to store the omegi-tteok 👀 It says that after taking it out of the box, don't put it in an airtight container; spread it out and freeze it!!

  • No storing in the fridge or kimchi fridge ❌
  • Eat it within 2 hours of taking it out of the freezer
  • For delivered orders, natural thawing is difficult, so unwrap it, cut it in half, and microwave for about 20–30 seconds 😏

Tangerine, red bean, bean powder, nut, black sesame: which flavors stood out?

Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok comes in a tangerine flavor that feels properly Jeju, the classic red bean, nutty bean powder, nuts, and black sesame!! When you think of omegi-tteok, red bean usually comes to mind first, but with this many flavors it was fun trying them one by one 🤤🤍

I especially love nutty, toasty flavors, so the bean powder, nut and black sesame ones caught my eye, hahaha 😋

Nut omegi-tteok: a crunchy bite

This is the nut omegi-tteok, loaded with nuts!! Looks nutty just from the picture, right?! The outside is packed with nuts, so the texture never gets boring, and I loved the crunch in every bite 🐷💚

Black sesame omegi-tteok: nutty, not just sweet

This is the black sesame omegi 🤍🖤 The tteok is soft and chewy,, and it's not just sweet, you taste the nuttiness too, so you don't get tired of it and it's perfect to keep eating 👏🏻

Tangerine omegi-tteok: 4 in one sitting with coffee

And this is the tangerine flavor!!! A special flavor you can only get in Jeju 🧡 I had it with coffee and I think I polished off 4 in one sitting.. hahaha it was just that good T_T 😭😭

Is it good as a snack for yourself, not just a gift?

I'd strongly recommend Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok even to people like me who aren't buying gifts and just want something to eat, hahaha 🤣 If you're hunting for a good omegi-tteok spot on a Jeju trip, looking for a place that does omegi-tteok pickup, or wondering what to snack on at your accommodation, I recommend Suragan Tteokbang :) Next time I'm in Jeju, I want to try their other tteok too 🍡〰️
