Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom (태영생막창 부전점) is a makchang restaurant about a 5-minute walk from Seomyeon Station Exit 12. Head a little way toward Jeonpo Elementary School and you'll find it! For details, please check Naver directions~!
It's open every day from 16:00 to 24:00, last order is 1 hour before closing, and there are no days off.

What's the atmosphere like at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom?
The exterior was super clean and tidy, and the inside is spacious. The sliding doors at the front are thrown wide open, so you can have a drink with an outdoor-tent pub (pocha) vibe. It seems newly opened, because everything looked neat!
You can see the whole kitchen from the entrance since it's an open kitchen, which looked very clean! The inside was huge with lots of tables, so it looked good for group visits too! There were window-side tables, and if you go further in, the sliding doors are all open, so you can enjoy a drink with that outdoor pocha feel!!
With this cool weather lately, haha, no way could I give up a vibe like this. We sat right by the open sliding doors, hehe.

What are the menu, prices and ordering rules?
The grilled items at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom are raw makchang, seasoned makchang and samgyeopsal (pork belly). Pork raw makchang and pork seasoned makchang are both ₩10,000 for 120g. The first order must be at least 3 servings, and if you want half raw and half seasoned, you need to order 2 servings of each! The menu has grilled items and side dishes.
So here's what we ordered!
- Pork raw makchang 120g ₩10,000 x2
- Pork seasoned makchang 120g ₩10,000 x2
- Jinro soju ₩5,000

Side dishes and the free fish cake soup
After you order, they set the table with makchang sauce, chili peppers, garlic, pickles, scallion salad and an earthenware pot of fish cake soup (odeng-tang). The side dishes go nicely with makchang!

I loved that the fish cake soup comes free in an earthenware pot...!! Piping hot, haha. It was great for a glass of soju with the soup while waiting for the makchang!
They prepare the sauce before the makchang comes out!!! Just add chopped scallions and hot green chilies to the makchang sauce however you like and mix!
How is the pre-grilled makchang cooked?
All the makchang at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom comes out pre-grilled, and they say it gets softer the more you grill it on the plate. The pre-grilling takes a li-ittle while, but as we sipped soju with the fish cake soup, the makchang finally arrived!!

That's 2 servings of seasoned and 2 servings of raw makchang! Two potatoes get placed on the grill midway too! The seasoned makchang burns easily, so keep flipping it, and if it looks like it's about to burn, you can set it on top of the potatoes!

Wow, this outdoor-pub vibe is crazy, right?!! Makchang in a comfortable indoor space while feeling the fresh air outside.. haha, so romantic! Time to clink glasses right away! Drinking with a Seomyeon outdoor pocha feel makes the soju taste sweet too, hehe.

How do the raw and seasoned makchang taste?
The raw makchang comes out golden from the pre-grilling, and dipped in the sauce it's so nu~tty and chewy, really good!!! The seasoned makchang is already flavored, so it's a bit more intense, and it was delicious too...!!!
I ate it almost right after it came out, so the chewy texture was strong. If you like a softer texture, don't turn off the heat. Grill it well done and you'll get a tender bite!!

Round makchang vs. long makchang
The makchang at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom comes in round pieces and long pieces, and the long ones are a little chewier. I tried the long ones dipped in the soy sauce dip and that was good too! I like the round ones more, haha. My boyfriend says the long ones are more his thing.

Makchang wrapped in pickled radish
Put makchang on a slice of pickled radish (ssammu), add grilled garlic, makchang sauce, pickles or scallion salad, and a bit of potato~ wrap it up and eat, and wow, it's insanely good...!!! The soju just slid down. It got even better the more it was grilled!

Should you order the gegureu ramyeon?
The gegureu ramyeon (게구리라면) at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom is ₩5,000, and apparently it's called that because it combines crab (ge) and Neoguri ramyeon, haha. When we were almost done with the makchang, people kept ordering it, so we did too!!!

I hadn't planned on ramyeon, but every single table ordered the gegureu ramyeon! Since it's Neoguri, the noodles are springy, and besides the crab, it has scallions, hot green chilies and chili powder, so just looking at it you know it can't be bad, haha.

On top of that, it comes with domestically grown kimchi...!!! They say lots of people skip kimchi these days because many restaurants use Chinese kimchi, but at Taeyeong Saengmakchang you don't have to worry, eat as much kimchi as you like!!! It's Korean-grown kimchi!
As soon as I heard it was Korean-grown, I put a piece of kimchi on the ramyeon and slurped it down, and wow... so freaking good...!! Seriously, you have to, have to, have to order the gegureu ramyeon!!!! It makes you want another bottle of soju, haha.

Fried rice to finish
The fried rice at Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom is ₩7,000 for 2 servings, comes fully stir-fried, and the portion is quite big!! We ordered it after finishing the ramyeon.

The kimchi is good, so how could the fried rice not be good!! We polished off the fried rice too and then headed out!
Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom: overall review
I visited Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom because I was craving makchang! Maybe because it's new, the whole place was clean, and best of all, the makchang comes pre-grilled, so you can eat comfortably without scrambling to cook it yourself, haha.
Raw and seasoned makchang each have their own charm, so picking between them was fun. At first the texture was super chewy, but the longer it grilled, the nuttier and softer it got! Personally, I liked it well done much more!!! If you prefer soft, nutty makchang over chewy, I recommend grilling it a bit longer 👍
And the sides we ordered, the gegureu ramyeon and fried rice, were amazing too... Especially the fried rice, made with Korean-grown kimchi, is a combo that can't possibly be bad, so we ate it to the very end, haha.
With the front of the restaurant wide open through the sliding doors, it's a perfect place for a drink with outdoor pocha vibes on a nice day! If you want to eat pre-grilled makchang comfortably in a clean restaurant and enjoy tasty sides too, it's a makchang spot worth visiting once :)
