Fig cream pie and iced tea at Hippy, a Jeonpo café

Hi, this is Poseulposeul! ☁️ I was in Jeonpo for a meal and stopped by Hippy (heap.p), a café famous for its atmosphere. I'd heard it specialized in cream pies and went in curious, and it turned out to be a much more serious dessert spot than I expected.

If you're looking for a good-vibe dessert café to hit after eating in Jeonpo, this one's perfect. I ate so, so well there.....

+) It's a Jeonpo café where you can bring your dog along too!

Fairytale-like red brick exterior of Hippy

The fairytale-like red brick building was fun to spot from a distance, and so pretty. It'd make a great photo spot out front too!

Hippy menu and prices: Mariage Frères tea for ₩5,000

Hippy's drink menu and price list

They had a wide range of coffee and non-coffee drinks, but we went with the TEA menu. It said #MariageFrères, and I couldn't believe they were charging just ₩5,000 for that brand... One drink per person, plus one free refill. Amazing.

Just so you know upfront... we absolutely used that refill haha. We ordered two iced teas — Marco Polo Rouge 5.0 and Alexander David 5.0.

Display case of house-made desserts

Hippy also makes its desserts — cream pies, madeleines, cream puddings — fresh in-house every morning, sold the same day they're made. Maybe that's why the display case items were disappearing fast.

For dessert I was torn between the Mont Blanc chestnut pie and the fig cream pie (9.0), and went with the fig one — total recommendation. Looking back, it was the first thing to sell out. The Mont Blanc chestnut pie was the only item stacked two rows deep, so it seemed to be a signature menu too, and it was also selling fast. I'll try that next time.

Inside Hippy: European-style interior and seating

Interior of Hippy café

Decorated so nicely, true to being a Jeonpo date café — it was fun just looking around.

Interior decor with wine bottles
European-style wall and table setup

Lots of wine bottles around, and the floor, walls, tables and chairs all had a strong European feel.

Dessert showcase filled at Hippy

True to a Jeonpo dessert spot, it was filled with house-made desserts.

Round table seating inside Hippy

This round table was so pretty.

Most seats are for two, but there's a group table further inside, so if you're coming with six or fewer people, it might be worth calling ahead to check.

How does Hippy's fig cream pie taste?

Fig cream pie served with two glasses of iced tea

The visuals are so good!!!!! Both drinks came in clear glasses packed with ice, and the reddish tea shining through the ice cubes looked really pretty. The two drinks were also subtly different in color.

The fig cream pie has crisp pastry topped with a generous mound of white cream, and a big chunk of fig on top. Thin fig slices peek out between the cream layers, with a tiny herb leaf on top — great for photos.

One bite in, the pastry has a rich, salty butter flavor, the whipped cream on top is soft, and the fig releases sweet juice.

Failed to eat it neatly.....

On top of that, there's custard cream inside too, so you get several textures at once in a single bite. Yum....

It looked so pretty that I didn't expect much flavor-wise, but true to a Jeonpo dessert spot that makes everything in-house, the balance of flavors was excellent. I thought it'd just be an Instagram-pretty café, but it's actually a serious Jeonpo-dong dessert specialist..... My eyes went wide after one bite.......

Marco Polo Rouge vs Alexander David: which tea to order

Iced Marco Polo Rouge tea packed with ice
Glass of reddish-brewed iced tea
Iced Alexander David black tea

Marco Polo Rouge is a decaf rooibos from Mariage Frères, with berry-fruit notes, floral hints and vanilla — good for evenings when you're watching your caffeine. Barely any bitterness or astringency, so it goes down easy. Recommended.

The Alexander David I ordered was a spiced black tea, with clove, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom notes blended in subtly — the spicy aroma hits you right as you drink it. It might be a love-it-or-hate-it flavor, but I like unusual scents so it wasn't bad for me. At first it felt kind of like a dentist's office, but as I kept drinking it turned clean and refreshing haha. If you like exotic flavors, give it a try!

Hippy tissues printed with a dog character

Even the tissues were super cute. Is this dog Hippy...??
