Weekend breakfast galbitang restaurant in Seomyeon: Gang Galbitang

Today I'm sharing a story about a visit to Gang Galbitang, a great restaurant in Seomyeon for a warm, filling meal. Gang Galbitang opens early in the morning, so I often go there for weekend breakfast. After a bowl of hot galbitang (short rib soup), my stomach feels comfortable and satisfyingly full, which makes it perfect for breakfast.

Quite a lot of people come to eat alone here, and the menu is varied — galbitang, galbi gukbap, noodles — so you can pick whatever you're in the mood for that day. If you're looking for a good gukbap (soup with rice) restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan, pay attention.

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon opening hours and parking

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is open daily from 9:20 am to 9:00 pm, with last order at 8:20 pm. Break time is 3:00–4:00 pm, so it's great to stop by for breakfast.

No worries if you're driving. You can use the Blue Parking Lot Bujeon-dong (399-8 Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu), and if you spend over ₩20,000 on food, you get a 30-minute parking voucher.

Where is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon? Location and exterior

Gang Galbitang is a 4-minute walk from Bujeon Market and a 1-minute walk from the dedicated parking lot.

There's a big banner in front of the restaurant so you can check the menu and prices before going in.

There were waiting chairs set up outside too. A phrase written there — roughly 'proud of our broth' — made me feel the confidence behind it and made me want to try it right away.

Is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon good for eating alone?

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon has a bar table divided into individual partitions, perfect for solo diners. Walking inside, the overall atmosphere was clean and warm.

On the wall was a note explaining that the soup is freshly made every morning and every process is done in-house, along with a line about striving to make good food. Feeling that mindset and pride was genuinely touching as a customer.

There was also a bar table well-suited for solo dining. It was divided into individual sections, so I liked being able to eat comfortably without worrying about people around me.

The self-serve side dish bar

On one side there was a neatly arranged self-serve bar. The first set of side dishes comes as a default, and if you need more banchan (side dishes) or water, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.

Gang Galbitang menu and how to order

You can order the Gang Galbitang menu directly from staff, or use the kiosks set up at the counter and near the entrance.

The spicy menu items are divided into levels 1 to 3, so you can choose the spice level to match your taste.

What comes with a bowl at Gang Galbitang

At Gang Galbitang, food comes neatly arranged on individual plates, and side dishes are served separately per person too. Each table was neatly set with tissues, individual plates, and condiments.

A little while later, our ordered food arrived, served neatly on individual plates like a proper set meal — it looked clean and was easy to eat.

The side dishes also came in individual portions each, which felt more hygienic than the shared-dish style.

What does the basic Gang Galbitang taste like?

We ordered Gang Galbitang and Spicy Gang Galbitang.

Let me introduce the Gang Galbitang I ordered first. I ordered the regular Gang Galbitang since I wanted something mild and not overly strong-flavored.

Inside the ttukbaegi (stone pot) were about three rib bones with tender meat attached. Eating it as-is was a bit inconvenient, so I trimmed the ribs to make them easier to eat before tasting.

Inside the Gang Galbitang there was also sprout ginseng, along with jujube and glass noodles, making it more substantial than I expected. The meat wasn't tough and was tender enough to pull off the bone easily. Most of all, tasting the broth, I could clearly taste the rich aroma and depth of the stock — it was delicious.

They also gave us a dipping sauce to eat with the meat, and dipping the ribs in it added a savory depth, letting me enjoy a different flavor altogether.

Personally, I loved pairing it with chorongi (Chinese artichoke). Pairing the mild galbitang with the tangy chorongi worked surprisingly well, and I kept reaching for more.

Spicy Gang Galbitang with extra noodles and rice: worth it?

I also tried adding noodle sarita to the Spicy Gang Galbitang, and eating the noodles together with the rich broth turned out to pair quite well. If you feel the basic galbitang portion is a bit small, adding noodle sarita could be worth trying.

While the basic Gang Galbitang is mild and rich, the Spicy Gang Galbitang was a bit spicier, with that gut-clearing, hangover-curing kind of flavor.

For the Spicy Gang Galbitang too, I separated the meat from the bone and trimmed it to make it easier to eat before tasting — the tender meat combined with the spicy broth was absolutely delicious.

The broth itself was so good I couldn't just leave it. I mixed rice into the leftover broth and finished it off heartily.

I still haven't tried the gukbap (soup with rice) menu at Gang Galbitang, so I'm planning to try that next time.

Oguchi's one-line verdict on an ordinary, precious morning

Overall, Gang Galbitang comes out neat and well put together. The Gang Galbitang paired rich broth well with tender ribs, while the Spicy Gang Galbitang had an appealingly punchy, spicy broth. Each menu item has its own charm, which made for a nicely varied experience.
