Weekend 4pm sushi takeout in Guwol-dong, Incheon: Minyeong Hwareo
In short
Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch is a sushi and sashimi takeout shop inside Moraenae Market in Guwol-dong, Incheon. On a weekend visit at 4pm, three packs — special sushi, special assorted sushi and raw salmon sushi — came in an insulated bag with ice packs and travelled 20 minutes home for dinner. The balance of rice and neta is why this sushi-loving couple keeps coming back to Minyeong Hwareo for takeout.

My husband and I love sushi so much we'd jump out of bed at the mere mention of it. There are plenty of sushi shops around, but when we want to eat comfortably at home, one place comes to mind without hesitation: Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang. We usually go to the flagship or other branches for takeout, so this time I'm sharing a review of picking up food from the branch in Moraenae Market, Guwol-dong.

Where to park at Moraenae Market
There are several public parking lots near Moraenae Market, so parking isn't too difficult, and even when full, spots tend to open up quickly. We visited around 4pm on a weekend — the lot was full with about three cars waiting, but we managed to park within five minutes.
How to find the shop from Moraenae Market Station

This sushi spot in Guwol-dong sits inside Moraenae Market.

I thought it might be hard to find since it's inside a market, but it turned out easier than expected. Just walk straight in from the entrance. If you're using the central plaza as a reference, go a bit further up and it's right there on the left.

Takeout only: what is in the showcase
Once we found it easily, this Guwol-dong sushi spot turned out to be takeout-only with no separate dining area. Running a dine-in section would require more space and staffing costs, so instead they focus that on sushi quality.

There's a big showcase out front, filled with all my beloved sushi.

Starting with Moraenae sushi, named after the branch itself, there's also omakase sushi, special sushi, special assorted sushi, and assorted shrimp sushi — plenty of set options to choose from depending on your taste.

Beyond the set menus, there are single items too — raw shrimp, sweet shrimp, engawa (fatty flounder fin), garlic salmon, freshwater eel — a nice variety that widens the choices!

They also have thick, generous futomaki rolls and a summer-only mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). There's sashimi prepped for hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl) too, so you can make a quick hoedeopbap at home — nice, nice~

Here's another important detail! This Guwol-dong sushi spot packs an insulated bag with an ice pack as standard whenever you buy sushi or sashimi, so even on a hot summer day I could carry it home with a bit more peace of mind.
20 minutes home: how the insulated bag and instant soup held up
It took about 20 minutes to get home, but with the insulated bag and ice pack, I didn't have to worry much about making it back safely!
Once we laid everything out — wow, what a spread! Each pack came with one ginger and one pickled radish, plus one soy sauce and one wasabi. Thanks to that, we never ran short while eating.
And this soup right here! Honestly, it was so good.

Just add about 100ml of hot water (measured by a paper cup) and stir — an easy, savory-salty soup comes together in no time.

Dinner from three packs: special, special assorted and raw salmon sushi
We chilled it in the fridge briefly and pulled it out at dinnertime! Today we picked special sushi / special assorted sushi / raw salmon sushi.

The colors alone set it apart.

There's a reason it looks so fresh just by sight. With the shop's principle of using same-day ingredients only on that same day, each piece keeps its natural color, making it look even more appetizing.
Setting up the soup, pickled radish, and ginger neatly before eating means you're all set! But wait — something's missing. Good food needs a drink, right? Another perk of eating takeout sushi at home is being able to pour myself a glass of whatever I like~

Since wasabi is already built into the sushi, it might be a bit much for kids, but as someone who loves wasabi, that was a plus for me.
Tasting garlic salmon, garlic shrimp and akami
Now the prep is done! Time to dig in. First up: garlic salmon. The salmon slice on top was thick and long, plenty enough to enjoy that signature soft texture.
My favorite — shrimp! Both the garlic shrimp and soy sauce shrimp had that satisfying plumpness, with a bouncy texture in every bite. The garlic shrimp especially had been lightly torched — both the shrimp and the rice grains — leaving a subtle smoky aroma. Nice, nice~

The akami (lean tuna) was noticeably fresh the moment it hit my mouth — clean, mild flavor that I couldn't stop eating.

My husband's favorite — raw salmon. Its vivid orange color looked appetizing on its own, and it really did have that soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Sipping the savory soup in between bites was perfect~

How was the rice-to-neta balance?
Personally, when sushi rice portions are too generous, I fill up before eating many pieces, which is always a bit of a letdown. This Guwol-dong favorite got the rice amount just right, which I really liked.

The rice and neta felt perfectly balanced.

Raw salmon is delicious plain, but adding the onion and sauce they provided gave it a crunchy texture that paired well with the sweet sauce — like eating a whole different kind of sushi~

Dipping it in soy sauce with a bit of wasabi mixed in is nice too, but

I prefer soaking a few pieces of pickled ginger in soy sauce and brushing that on instead. That way, the sharp, refreshing scent of the pickled ginger seeps in slightly, making it taste cleaner and better than eating it plain.
Satisfying in both freshness and flavor, this Guwol-dong favorite is a place my husband and I keep returning to — we eat sushi about once a week, and this time was no exception. Delicious as always!!!
