Jangan-dong galbi restaurant with LA galbi and ice cream: Anhung

On a day when pork ribs were oddly on my mind from the morning onward — and still on my mind by evening — I looked up rib restaurants in my neighborhood. One place kept popping up whenever I searched for good restaurants in Jangan-dong: Anhung Galbi Main Branch! I'd been curious about it for a while, so I finally went :)

What Anhung Galbi Main Branch in Jangan-dong looks like inside

Anhung Galbi Main Branch is a pork rib restaurant at 153 Janghan-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, South Korea. We visited around 7:30 PM on a Monday, and being dinnertime, groups kept coming in one after another. The interior had that easy, neighborhood-BBQ-joint feel. I only snuck a few photos when there were no customers around :)

Anhung Galbi's menu and what two people ordered

The menu at Anhung Galbi Main Branch is posted right on each table, so it was easy to check without waiting. We started with the pork ribs — marked as the popular item — for 2 servings. Today's drink: somaek (soju mixed with beer)!

Side dishes at Anhung Galbi: bossam-style kimchi and seasoned raw crab

The side dishes came out generous and varied — more variety than I expected while waiting for the meat. What surprised me most was that instead of the usual BBQ-joint kimchi, they served the kind of kimchi you'd get with bossam (boiled pork wraps)! On top of that came seasoned raw crab and a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) as standard sides. There was also jaeraegi, great for eating alongside the meat, so there was plenty to mix and match.

The pork ribs finally arrived. Coated in a sweet marinade, they were the perfect pair with somaek — an unbeatable combo, as always...!

I love grilled garlic, so I asked the staff if they had a little dish for it — they brought one right over, and I enjoyed it with the meal!

I was so hungry that I started eating the moment the meat was done, without thinking, and only remembered to snap a photo partway through, haha.

Free dessert naengmyeon, served as bibim naengmyeon

Here's what I really liked about Anhung Galbi Main Branch: dessert naengmyeon (cold noodles) is free with a meat order, so we asked for it partway through. Both of us went straight for bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) without hesitation!

As we kept eating, it felt like we still needed more meat, so we added an order of LA galbi (LA-style short ribs) — marked as recommended on the menu. But the owner gave us what looked like two servings for the price of one!!!

LA galbi is a sure-thing flavor you don't even need to explain, haha. It worked well to start with the pork ribs and then add a second dish once you feel like more.

Full and ready to pay, we noticed Anhung Galbi Main Branch also has an ice cream and coffee corner right at the entrance. Eat your fill of meat, then treat yourself to ice cream and coffee too!

Is Anhung Galbi in Jangan-dong worth a visit?

I went looking for pork ribs after having them on my mind since morning, and ended up with a full dinner — from the side dishes all the way through dessert naengmyeon.

If you're looking for a good restaurant in Jangan-dong, start with the pork ribs, and if that's not enough, adding LA galbi like we did is a solid combo!
