Euljiro makchang restaurant: Friday night patio and somaek at Baegyeom

Baegyeom Makchang Euljiro Main Branch is a Daegu makchang (grilled intestines) restaurant near Exits 11 and 12 of Euljiro 3-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a Friday after work, the writer ordered 2 servings of Daegu makchang at ₩17,000 and 1 serving of seasoned makchang at ₩18,000, eaten with scallion kimchi, makjang dipping paste and salt. The Daegu makchang at Baegyeom Makchang was nutty and tender with no gamey smell, making Baegyeom Makchang a recommended spot for makchang and somaek (soju mixed with beer) in Euljiro.

Nonhyeon Station Korean BBQ: 1++ tenderloin with roe, Matbaegogi

Matbaegogi is a Korean BBQ restaurant serving 1++ Gangwon hanwoo (Korean beef) on Hakdong-ro 2-gil, near Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer brought red wine thanks to free corkage, ordered the Matbae Special set for two (99,000 won), then added 150g of tenderloin (55,000 won) because the beef was so good; beef tartare bibim noodles, doenjang (soybean paste) stew and grilled pollock roe came included. Matbaegogi is a good-value place in Nonhyeon to enjoy hanwoo with wine.

Konkuk Univ. bakery café lunch before an escape room: Stack Bakery

Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch is a bakery café famous for croissants in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin, Seoul, between Konkuk Univ. Station and Jayang Station. Before an escape room, the writer had a plain croissant, a kouign-amann and a pain au ham and cheese with an iced Americano and a latte at the 2nd-floor window seats, and even a friend who isn't into bread enjoyed the pain au ham and cheese. Stack Bakery's bread and coffee were good enough that a quick bite turned into a filling lunch, finished to the last crumb.

Seongsu Western restaurant with pork jowl and kimchi purée: Kongkase

Kongkase Seongsu is a Western restaurant in the Seongsu-dong galbi alley near Seoul Forest Station, Seoul. After walking in from a heatwave, we took a window seat at Kongkase Seongsu and had the white ragu fresh pasta for 19,000 won and pork jowl with kimchi purée for 36,000 won, with Stella beer and white wine. Between the chewy fresh noodles, the rich sauce and the tender pork jowl, both dishes were satisfying, making Kongkase Seongsu a good pick for group dinners and dates alike.
